Phil Robertson uses 'rape story' to denounce atheists - BBC News

Or, the text version:

"Two guys break into an atheist's home," Robertson said in the speech. "He has a little atheist wife and two little atheist daughters.

"Two guys break into his home and tie him up in a chair and gag him. And then they take his two daughters in front of him and rape both of them and then shoot 'em and they take his wife and then decapitate her head off [sic] in front of him."

He continued: "And they can look at him and say, 'Isn't it great that I don't have to worry about being judged? Isn't it great that there's nothing wrong with this? There's no right or wrong, now is it dude?'"

1) That guy isn't describing a scenario...it's his own personal fetish.

2) Rape and murder is universally considered wrong in every culture...except Christianity. There are numerous examples in The Old Testament in which Christians are encouraged to engage in rape and murder.

That ignorant moron seems to be operating under the misconception that atheists don't have morals. What an asshole.

Angry trash rabble for angry trash rabble. Congrats tea party...this is the mullah you love.

If the same thing happened to Robertson and his family I seriously doubt God would lift a finger to help him. So who is he kidding?

Yeah, and what would be the alternative? Sitting there and praying about it? I doubt poor, ignorant Phil would keep his faith after something as horrible as that. Also, what kind of a sick asshole comes up with such a disgusting take on pascal's wager as if it's going to convince us of anything other than that Phil has some psychological issues.

Also to note: This scenario is happening just about daily by religiously motivated ISIS. I don't see a whole lot of extremist atheists.

I think I understand.

If you bust an atheist's balls that's "crazy" but if you bust a Christian's balls it's cool. Izzat about right?

I hope you mean metaphorically busting balls. I don't advocate actually busting anyone's balls.

If you mean he was "ragging" on atheists...OK. No one I know equates Christians to rapists. People may point to the Bible to show examples of "immoral" actions being OKed. If that is not OK...let me know and I will refrain from doing so.

To my knowledge there is no Atheist manifesto that advocates child rape and decapitation. For Phil Robertson to equate Atheists as some monolithic group with some universal ideals of morals is just plain ignorant.

He, cracking on Atheists, is not the issue.

I'm pretty sure it's Christianity that says this is ok as long as the rapist repents anyway.

LOL I was in another political forum years ago and was debating with this one evangelical fanatic- he basically believed that as long as you recognized Jesus as the one true god you were guaranteed to go to heaven regardless of what you do on earth.

Sounds like a pretty sweet gig.

Nota bene: I couldn't find a passage in the Old Testament in which Christians were mentioned. Could you post an example? ;)

It's also kind of scary that the only reason Phil Robertson doesn't rape and murder people is because he thinks it's sinful. He doesn't believe it's inherently wrong, but that's it's only wrong because the Bible says so.

Well, the ethics of atheism are lass universal and certainly more relative than those of most religions. This is not good or bad, but it is true.

It is certainly interesting that it is such a strong driver for his behavior. Of course, one of the Karamasov brothers points out that problem at one point in the Dostoiyevsky novel and it does make sense on a purely logical plain. That is not saying that humans do not have certain behavior hard wired into them by evolution or anything like that. But as an argument it is quite consistent.

I love that he thinks God is what is stopping people from mass rape and murder, rather than an inherent sense of morality or even the legal consequences from the government. Because it's not surprising that the last two have a significant failure rate, but if God exists it does seem like he could be doing a better job.
