I need pet advice

I crate all of my dogs, especially the fosters. When the fosters come here, they're so overwhelmed that they LIKE being in the crates. All of my dogs will wander in the open crates during the day and curl up to sleep, with the doors open. They love it in there, especially when it's dark and warm.

Exactly. Lily loves hers, and she also sleeps in there with the door wide open.

Hey - let me ask y'all a question. Seeing as how Elvis will be neutered tomorrow, and Lily spayed soon thereafter, if they get on well with each other, do you think a bigger crate that they could both fit in would work for them? He is used to sleeping beside the female blue gene that the breeder bought, so I thought maybe he and Lily could share a big crate, with each other.

Y'all think that would work? Any pros or cons to it?

Hmmm.....it depends. Will Elvis be wearing a cone of shame? He very likely might be given all that's getting done (never mind the jewel snipping). If that's the case, I don't think I'd put them in together. He'll be flustered and it may cause him concern. But after the cone is off, and they are both healed (and spayed/neutered :)) I think it's a good idea, if they get along. Dogs love to snuggle up to each other

OK yeah I was going to do it in a couple of weeks, after he's all healed up. I think they'd do well together, if we can ever get them together to even play. Every time he sees her, he gets a boner, and there goes my carpet. I'm going to have to call a carpet cleaner in here once he's better. I am using this really good carpet stuff, but I am afraid that the smell might linger.

A boner.

For the short term use the Arm & Hammer Plus Oxiclean if you aren't already. I swear by the stuff!

Update: Elvis came through his first surgeries this morning with flying colors. The vet wanted to keep him overnight, because he pops in several times a night to check on them, and he wanted to make sure he had no issue with anesthesia, since his face is so flat.

Should be able to bring him home in the morning. *impatiently waiting*

We put our dogs in the kennel together when it is cold outside. A black lab and a golden retriever. They don't mind at all and spend the day in the kennel together too (they go to work with my father and he walks them at lunch and such).

But we don't when it is warm. We live in Florida. Lol.

Good to hear. What about the back and legs and hips?

I can't leave mine outside for any longer than to use the bathroom. I live in South Georgia, and it's always hot here. :(

He did xrays on his back and says he has some issues with his spine. His vertebrae are all wonky and misshapen in spots, but there's not much that can be done about it. His hips are OK for now, but he does have mild hip dysplasia. He had 3 surgeries yesterday morning. He had the urethral prolapse surgery, he was neutered and they did another surgery on his cleft palate to help him breathe better. May have to have other surgeries on his cleft palate because his breathing is restricted more than usual.

Thanks for asking. :)

Aaaaannnd he's headed back to the vet's office. We brought him home this morning, and we've taken him out 3 times to urinate, and he's squatting but not urinating. Nothing is coming out. With the surgery being on his urethra, that is troublesome. We called the vet, who said, "Well, that's not good. Can you get him back here in an hour and let me run a catheter?"

:( :(

He's back home, after having taken a pill to make him pee. The vet says, "OK - give him the pill, and make sure he's outside in 30 minutes, because he's gonna go like a racehorse." We are sitting at 25 minutes right now, but he's snoring pretty loudly, so we'll know when he wakes up and we'll take him out.

This is him on the way home. I feel for him. Pain pills have the same effect on me.

Damn that must have been scary. Glad I read the other post before this one!

Hope all is well and your vet isn't just dumb :) I'm sure you trust em. Good luck.

Man he's more stoned than my husband was at Woodstock. He can't stay awake long enough to go outside to use the bathroom.

Elvis is adorable, hon. Fingers crossed that he'll come through all his health issues well... and that you'll survive the stress! *hugs*

Yeah the stress isn't helping, either. Thanks! He's doing OK for now. Sitting in his new bed, but won't lie down. I think he's afraid he's going to miss something.
