This is why women love their girlfriends...

Nice vid. It got me thinking

I've got a female friend who just had hip replacement surgery and was thinking maybe I should shave something

Any suggestions?

:rofl !! Have you been drinking, Sangha??

I'm just concerned for my friend. She has a long hard road ahead of her. I've known her since High School and she could use the moral support (and the laughs)

How about a Mohawk? Seriously!! Or just shave your head! What a fun thing to do!! You'd probably scare her to death.

Well, from what I've been told, that would be more appropriate than you probably realize

I'm scary enough as it is.

I only mentioned that because that's what Tommy did when I had chemotherapy four years ago. It was summertime. I was determined to wear a wig because I felt self-conscious, but it was so damned HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were at a Gary Sinese concert and they were giving Mohawks to support the troops. He had his hair cut and then had it dyed rainbow colors. "Don't feel self-conscious anymore, Maggie; nobody's going to be looking at YOU."

Gotta' love that guy.

You'd look cool in a mohawk! Just be there for your friend, hold her hand, give her a cute stuffed hippo... maybe one that farts, like Abby on NCIS has!... show her that you care. I wish I had friends like you. *hugs*

Gee, I started reading your post and thought you were brave for talking about your chemo.

And then you admitted going to a Gary Sinese concert!!!

I used to date this girl who worked at the Toledo zoo. I saw her work environment. In real life hippos aren't so cute. They can shoot liquid out of their butt hole about 20 yards.

Nice video. I showed my wife and she made two comments. If she shaved her head like that, then my inner Star Trek nerd could sleep with the bald chick from Star Trek. The second comment is that she reminded me of this story, you can probably guess how it plays out:

Sally Satel and I have been friends since 1997. We're kindred spirits -- strong-willed, intellectual iconoclasts who are a bit too ingenuous for our own good. But she lives in Washington, D.C., where she's a fellow at a think tank, and I live in Dallas. We almost never see each other and communicate mostly by e-mail. We follow each other's work but don't share our day-to-day lives. Last fall, no one would have called us close.

So I had no idea Sally's kidneys were failing. She needed a transplant, our friend told me.

I do agree. These types of friends are indeed special.

I saw a nurse shave a guy, 'down there' for surgery and she left a heart shaped patch, because it was cute. The surgeon was NOT happy....lol

What a GREAT story!!!

That's so cute...

My sister passed away from cancer 15 years ago. I remember being amazed at the steady stream of girl friends that came to visit her daily.

It was a testament to a life time of cultivating and nurturing friendships. She was always there for her friends and, in the end, when she really needed those friends, they were there for her.

I just don't know if men ever form ties that strong.

My office manager is currently in treatment for lung cancer. She is awesome. It's been about 4 months now, the first 3 months she was treated with chemo onlt and was rechecked at 13 weeks. The tumors had shrunk 60%. She is now going thru both chemo and radiation. Chemo on Mondays, radiation Monday thru Friday. A lot of people come in asking about her. Some customers even call just to ask even when they don't need any work done. It really is impressive to see how many people care about her even 4 months after her diagnosis. Sometimes people are awesome. We got her one of these.

A lot of people are making them, a friend of ours started making them after her mother died (don't know if it was from cancer, but she was a 5 time cancer survivor). When they went to clean out the house they found a huge basket of yard and she was inspired. She charges $15 each, lots of different designs, and when somebody buys one she makes 2. The second one is donated. Don't think I'd be giving away too much by saying that I still refer to her as "My Jenny". The first time I thought it it sounded like Forrest Gump in my head. I called to tell her about it and we had a good laugh. She is 61. Can't wait to get her back.

First I've heard of it, Viv. Whatever works!

The total is over 2 million today. Fabulous.

My friends are all doing it, I just got nominated on Facebook, but I'm working. Do it soon as I can.

I heard a US journalist started this in support of Kim Novak.
