Woman, 71, stung 1,000 times by swarm of 75,000 bees

By a Times staff writer March 9, 2014, 11:31 a.m.

A 71-year-old woman in Palm Desert is recovering after being stung by a swarm of 75,000 Africanized honey bees, officials said.
Cal Fire Battalion Chief Mark Williams told the Press-Enterprise that the woman suffered more than 1,000 bee stings in the attack Thursday. She was hospitalized but is expected to recover, officials said.
"She was covered as if she had on a bee suit, and we threw her in back of ambulance, where our guys sustained bee stings," Williams told KESQ-TV.
Officials said the bees flew out of a Verizon telephone vault that a worker had opened. The woman was nearby, they said.
A beekeeper was brought in and the bees were removed and sent to farmers for crop pollination, authorities said.

Well in case you think you're having a bad day, maybe this will put things in perspective? I mean there are nightmares and horror movies about things like this, but they rarely actually happen like this.

Africanized bees and they took them somewhere else and released them? That's nuts!

I wondered the same thing. I guess now we know why killer bees are spreading.

Not all scientists are in agreement. I know they have been talking about the North American honey bees, being Africanized for the last 20 years. I think it is probably liberal scientists are using scare tactics to drum up tsupport.

Well, obviously killer bees do exist and they do attack people as the OP shows. Google: killer bees facts.

I had thought after the death of John Belushi's death that the Killer Bees Gang had drifted apart. Hearing this news is very alarming.
