Anyone find this awkward..

I'm not going to lie. I'm pretty close with my mother. We'll openly discuss topics that many other mothers and sons would probably find to be taboo and even poke fun at one another in an irreverent manner. We'll do things like grab lunch or catch a movie together every now and then, and we're not particularly shy about semi-frequent physical contact (Hugs, you buncha' weirdos! ) either.

It might strike some people as being kind of strange, but that's honestly just the way my family is. We're affectionate in that regard.

However, the simple fact of the matter is what's going on in that photo shoot is freaking creepy on more levels than I care to count. I don't even like to think of my parents as being human beings in that regard. The very last thing I'd want to do is grope one of them on camera!

My son and I can talk about virtually anything as well, and it's not beyond us to be irreverent and crass, but it's more like a friends relationship (now that he's a man, and not under my watch). He's one of the few people in the world that I can discuss serious issues and important matters about life with, who is open-minded enough not to be uncomfortable with frank honesty, but the pics in the op are just so over-the-top imo, that words can't describe it.

Two things most normal people really don't want to *think* about, let alone see: Their parents having sex, or their children having sex.

What would Freud say to this?

I asked him. Since he's been dead for quite some time, he didn't respond to my query.

It's a little suggestive for our contemporary conservatism, perhaps, but I don't see anything untoward there. It's not like she's sucking their dicks.

I don't think anyone would describe me as "conservative," and dude, that's frickin' weird.

Even staged, the thought of even pretending to be in those kinds of poses with my family members is... *shudders*

The implication is clearly sexual. Body language is one of the most fundamental forms of human sexual signaling, second only to displays of genital arousal, and it has nothing to do with social mores. It's just imprinting.

Even if it was all pretend... I would probably wind up puking on someone before the shoot was done, assuming that for some insane reason I hadn't simply walked off.

Oh, the allure of the consummately known quantity.

You couldn't presume to entice me with intellect the Lord saw fit to deny you. Where I've a yen for the void, I'll hit the Basement.

I hardly care what you 'think', witless 'matriarch'.

Very well said! My sons know there are things I will not discuss with them, and vice-versa. I am their mom, after all. Generally speaking, they are protective of me, and I have no doubt that they would be embarrassed by these pictures more so than me. I just can't figure out what point she is trying to make here, and I find it over the line in many ways! Yuck!

Greetings, lizzie. :2wave:

The red line, the line in the sand.

The one that pertains to mothers and sons.

Did you ever hear of that taboo?

Lines in the sand? We've been booming them since Tim tiptoed through the tulips. So in love!
And he could even marry now.

We're not in Sodom anymore and the thrill of the forbidden novelty is hard to come onto now. So don't be hard on the kids . We showed'em the way.
And if they get her pregnan? No prob from incest! Just get it flushed.

At least that is how our society works.

But they look okay. Why shudder at the image? Two men humping away to spite their severe challenges of weight and age grunting with extasy is what hits my mind, when some go on about homosexuality and gay marriage. And I have no problem with it. I would prefer they kept it to themselves and didn't call the image, but man, it's a free country.

Because we're built to feel that way about family, who are too genetically close. It's what all healthy families are programmed to do. It's not something we choose -- it's an innate neurological mechanism that goes off.

The other problem is that incest, apart from rare cases of "long lost family" who don't recognize each other, is usually a product of coercion. And that creeps me out too. Even if it's fake.

See, I actually don't have a thing with incest being legal or whatever, in the absence of any sexual abuse. But to put something usually associated with sexual abuse out there like that makes me squidge.

Freaking out over Teh Gay, on the other hand, has no basis in biology or neurology, and is not usually associated with sexual abuse.

I'm really shocked that so many people here think it's out of bounds. When she's on her knees in front of a son with an unzipped fly, I'll post my disgust.

I really am not convinced by your explanation, thought, I do believe you that you gag at the thought. I know many people with that reaction to male gay sex or bestiality sex. Some even prefer the latter. And the incest thing is historically not infrequent. All you need do is drive into the mountains almost anywhere in the world. Don't kid yourself. Lots of people get on with their kids or sisters without vomitting. It happens all the time.

Some healthy disgust is always good.

In other news: My gaydar went off immediately. The youngest one is gay, but I couldn't exactly tell on the oldest. Google search says the oldest came out already.

The poses are awkward.

so who is Stephanie Seymour anyways????
A socialite and model from NYC, apparently.

Incest avoidance with close family as a feature of childhood development is a well-observed process in humans, although the precise mechanisms remain unknown.

Incest at one to two levels of removal is fairly common, and has actually been shown to have some positive effects on the gene pool weirdly enough, but in immediate family, it is uncommon absent unusual social or abusive factors -- which can and do exist in some cultures, making close incest more common.

That's the thing about humans. We're mentally flexible to the point where even some of our basic mental cogs can be overridden by sufficiently consistent outside pressures. However, that doesn't make it typical, or necessarily healthy (sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't).

I actually know someone who grew up in a small culture that had these kinds of overriding pressures when it came to immediate familial incest, and the way it affected his family is extreme, and wholly negative. It's one of the reasons they eventually decided to escape the commune.

Those were just two of the photos, and to me the sons being gay makes no difference. She's still looking at him in a sexual, sensual manner, and trying to be sexy in a sexy pose with only bra and panties. Glad I'm not alone in my thinking that it's weird.

if it were an older woman, it'd be one thing. But it's their mother. *shudder*

That's as bad as the Billy Ray Cyrus / Miley Cyrus Vanity Fair shoot.

That was creepy, these pictures go beyond that. Sure does give a whole new meaning to mama's boy.

Personally, I believe that 'disturbing' is a better word.
