ok i havent driven my 84 dodge power ram much lately, now i mostly drive a 99 countour to save on gas,so i thought id sell the dodge hoping someone wanted a fun 4x4 truck thats rock solid, and use the money to buy a smaller 4x4 truck or a muscle car project.

well the first buyer made me take it off the market.he asked me about practiclly everything but when i said it was a 360 cid v8,h said he didnt care what engine trans or tcase was in it because he wanted to put a 350 engine and a 700r3 trans and a 203 np tcase.i gave him a dumb look and said theres no such thing as a 700r3 trans, and im not selling it to someone who wants to put a chevy everything in it,then i told him if he wants a 350 engine to buy a chevy, because there are plenty of people who buy a dodge for it to be a dodge,

maybe im too anal, but it just pisses me off people try to buy a truck to convert it into another truck, and ive lost a buyer recently because of it.

once he buys it, it's his truck to do with as he pleases
if he gives you your asking price, i don't see the problem

but it's still your truck to do with as you please. the no-sale simply makes no sense business-wise

I see your point, Bubba, but this old gal may have sentimental value for him and he doesn't want to see it butchered. Can't say as I blame him.

If it has sentimental value, don't sell it.

Solved it easily.

I agree. I had a kid come in to my shop with a Toyota a few years newer than mine. His parents were divorced and his mother offered to pay to mod his truck. He wanted to jack it up, put 38 inch tires on it, and put a 350 in it. I told him no. I said the reason you are driving a 23 year old truck is that it was designed correctly to begin with. If you want all that go chop up a Chevy. But what you are proposing is spending a pile of money to ruin a perfectly good truck and I'm not going to be a part of it. His father smacked him on the shoulder and said "See? I told you" and they left.

Then you were ambivalent about selling your truck in the first place. You aren't "done with it" yet.

I guess only you know if that's a pattern in your life. I know someone who can't get rid of a damned thing -- either because he figures he's selling it too cheap and someone's taking advantage of him; or because he "might need it some day."

In either case, if you're happy; no one else really gives a damn. ;)

Can you really blame someone for wanting a Chevy truck no matter what?

They have their place and are still my top choice for a full sized truck (even over the Tundra), but when it comes to heavy terrain I prefer smaller and lighter and nothing holds a candle to a Toyota. Mine is 29 years old now, I paid $1000 for it 18 years ago and drive it every day. I have not found it's reasonable limits yet.

What is it with these Trucks?

I am British and whilst in the USA on holiday I did a little survey of these monsters. About half had never had anything in the back, not even shopping and of the rest some had the hook up for he massive trailer things and very occasionally the odd one had some signs that it worked for a living.

They are slow, gas guzzling and ugly. Buy a decent car!

Although to judge by the standard of the hire car that could be very tricky in the good old USA.

Depends on what part of the country you were in.

My Tacoma has had just about everything in the back that one could put there, sand, gravel, dirt, fertilizer, a 4 wheeler, people, seats for an old Impala, antiques, groceries...

There are times I need 4WD just to get up my driveway, and that's how I got through the snow today to get to work.

My truck is known as The Red Rocket, slow isn't in it's vocabulary....

I think if you're sincere in your desire to sell the truck, with a little patience you can sell it. Personally, I wouldn't sell such a truck if I had a use for it. I can't get along without mine - lumber to haul, hay to haul, and much more all on a regular schedule of sorts. I've never understood the "I have a truck for fun" crowd. I love work, and a truck is a work vehicle. BTW, 4 wheel is incredibly valuable in a truck - it's just that if 4 wheeling is your thing, a truck is not the ideal platform.

You are absolutely right. Even here in the mountains most trucks are never used as trucks. For those of us who use them as such they are invaluable. A better choice for most would be a Subaru. Your version of Top Gear did a series a while back where they tried to destroy a Toyota Hilux (what we call a pickup), check it out. You will understand the loyalty.

I have a feeling that, with some guys, the size and power of their truck directly relates to the size of their penis.

There's no denying it trucks, like penises, are fun to drive.

Oh, they are great things if you are building a house in the middle of the Rocky mountains where there are no roads but otherwise if there is a road to the site a van with a roof rack and tow hitch for a trailer is always better. That's the for the building industry, farmers might have good uses for them.

I haul 1600 pounds of firewood at a time in my truck. I wouldn't want to stoop down to load that in and out of a van. I've done that twice this month. I also wouldn't want to toss a freshly shot deer or hog in a van. Many an animal has been processed off my tailgate. Don't get me wrong, I had a van for a few years and there are things it did better than a truck could, but for some of us a truck is the way to go. Some manufacturers are wising up and producing vehicles like the Ford SporTrac, which is a small pickup body with 4 doors, a back seat and a short bed. It will haul a trailer, you can park it in a normal space, mileage doesn't suck, and while the bed won't fit a face cord of firewood it can still handle other bulky items that wouldn't fit in a van.

Fair enough if you have a good use for it. It's that seemingly 90% of them didn't ever get used for such things.

Not sure what part of the US you visited but here in the midwest, the over whelming majority use their trucks to haul. There are some that buy a truck because of the image, but I know of no one that owns a truck and doesn't use it for which it was intended.

Mine is neither slow, gas guzzling, or ugly, at least in my opinion. I also have a decent car that gets fair fuel mileage.

C'mon now I have seen quite a few British cars that were god awful looking.:wink2:

UM yeah, you're being a bit anal.

Who cares what he want's to do to the truck, when he buys it - it is his truck to do as he pleases...

Why do you care what he does with it considering you admittedly don't use it.

If you want it to be used the way you want, then give it to some kid for cheap, or make him work it off...

At the same time you can just donate it.

I've donated several vehicles to organizations that fix them up and give them to needy families.

well i agree with the designed right part, its solid and runs better than most new vehicles with half the miles, and it didnt suffer the dreaded dash disinegration the new rams did,and has a suspension thats ruged for work rather than ride comfort.

but in this area almost all older trucks are dodge or ford,as chevy isnt as popular in texas as the rest of the country, and most chevy trucks with their wheels falling off go for 4-7 gand here, while a perfectly running dodge or ford usually less, like they believe that because its a chevy its worth a fortune no matter how beatup it is.i only wanted 2500 for mine with only needing an exhaust hanger replaced and the park cable needing a spacer.

Can you really blame someone for wanting a Chevy truck no matter what?

i really can,i dont go buy chevies and try to make them dodges,or fords dodges,or turn toyotas into hondas.
