What areyour predictions for world in 80-100 years’ time?
You can makesocial, environmental, economic, military, space, medical, technological, religious predictions. Also, we are talking world-wide, not just the UnitedStates.
We all WANT worldpeace, total equality – racial, gender, age etc. - , no racism, no poverty. But, is this practical? So, this thread is about what you believe the worldwill be like in 80-100 years, not what you would like it to be. Will humans beexploring and colonising space with amazing technology? Will we live extendedlives by increasing longevity (at least for the rich)? Will religion (allreligions) be a thing of the past? Will a few humans be surviving in a post-apocalypticworld? Will some unknown disease cause a pandemic around the world? Yes I knowno one can predict with certainty, but it will be interesting to see whatothers think based on trends now witnessed in society.
Personally,I think that as long as there are people there will be inequality of some sort, and there will always be a war going on somewhere. I also don’t think we willever end poverty around the world. My eldest grand-daughter thinks that an apocalypseis inevitable and the world will go backwards. Grand-daughter number two thinksthat environmental damage is the biggest problem the world faces and we will beliving in unbearable heat with limited vegetation. When grand-daughter numberone heard her sister’s prediction, she nodded in agreement that that is apossible scenario.
So mypredictions are:
1) There will be a world war - Islam againstthe rest of the civilised world. It will be long and it will be vicious and itwill be winner take all. If Islam is victorious then the survivors will liveunder the most repressive, evil and brutal world the world has ever seen. Ifcivilisation is victorious, then most rights people take for granted willdisappear, at least temporarily, due to paranoid governments and society. Ireally do believe that a war with Islam is inevitable, although not in mylifetime.
OR
2) There is a good chance that a new anddeadly disease will sweep the world and destroy most of us. I am surprised ithas not happened for a while considering past epidemics.
Please putin your 2 bob’s worth.

Asia (a bit of a crap shoot here between India and China, honestly) will overtake the West as the center of the global economy, and probably even surpass the United States in terms of military power. We will also probably wind up in some sort of military conflict with China, either directly or by proxy, before the end of the Century.

Predictions more specific than that are kind of hard to make.

We will undoubtedly see the development of computers with more raw power than the human brain, but whether or not "self aware" artificial intelligence will be achieved is an iffy prospect at best. In any eventuality, however; I expect that robotics technology will come to play a significantly larger role in virtually all aspects of our society, on both a civilian and military basis.

Social networking and information technology will almost certainly become more pervasive and thoroughly integrated into our everyday lives as well.

In 100 years, peace and liberty. :)
But intill then...

And yes, war with Islam is virtually inevitable since this is one of the most totalitarian religions out there. It's expansive and political too, suprise, surprise.

The development of extractive industries and heavy industry in earth orbit.

Just the mining will be the greatest single jump in human wealth in history. Raw materials will drop in price to almost nothing.

The appearance of 3d printers which work with many materials which will allow stuff to be made at home or anywhere else.

The result of these things will be that almost all of the economy will be about pleasure. About just entertainment. From pubs to scuba holidays we will all be doing service industry jobs.

The conquest of disease and death will become something of a reality. 100 years old, OK, so how are you doing with the practice for the next marathon after your new heart?

Maybe over 100 years;
The building of space based habitats. These will typically be using asteroids which have been heavily used for mining and now are converted to live in and for industrial use. These will be the most luxurious places to live. The concentric layers of city and parkland will allow many hundreds or billions of people to live in idyllic conditions.

That some or other of these habitats will have some sort of fall out with the rest of humanity and decide to leave the solar system. Galactic colonization by ships with so many people on them that the question of how to survive or what to do on the voyage is the same as what to do on earth for all that time; party, work, live, love, do science, whatever.

Artificial intelligence and human consciousness will merge into a yet unpredictable life form, but one that could possibly suffer from total spiritual enslavement or total freedom depending on how it's constructed.

Nanotechnology will be good enough to replace human cellular activity, rendering us effectively immortal and immune to climate change. We may even be able to jump fr the physical to the virtual world at will and a body may not be tied to a specific consciousness.

We will be able to travel the stars and survive the long travel times as a result and will begin first steps of expanding outward.

Only a small percent of the population will be able to afford this, leaving most of us to rot.

Most modern political philosophies will be rendered obsolete.

Used to be a nuclear winter would kill us all.

Then it was global warming that would raise the levels of the seas and flood much of the land and burn the rest.

Now there's talk of an Islamic vs the good guys global conflict.

I won't be here in 100 years, but I'm willing to bet those who are will be doing just fine, with a whole bunch of new inventions and energy sources, with lots to eat and drink, religions will still be bitching and moaning about other religions, and the next century's Kim Kardashian and Miley Cyrus will be driving everyone just as crazy.

I don't fear for the future one bit - I don't necessarily want to live it, but survival is our greatest character attribute.

Islam is 600 years younger than Christianity.
Think of where Christianity was in 1400 AD?
There will be a new enlightenment in Islam, and they may come to live in peace with others.
Energy storage and water are the big limiting factors ahead of us.
I think the energy storage problem will be solved with man made hydrocarbon fuels.
With sufficient energy we can solve the water problems.
Photovoltaic power will take giant leaps ahead in usage, as we will have a way to store the excess
power,(hydrocarbons).
There will also be large advances in agriculture, aquaponics, and aquaculture.

i predict there will be no world war between islam and the world

Muslims of different countries, tribes, clans don't get along with each other and fight amongst each other more often then they fight against non muslims.

See Pakistan, Afghanistan, Lebanon as prime examples

Indonesians are not going to fight for Saudi Arabians in any number (a few extremists would), and it has the largest population of muslims of any country

The "world war" in question is already happening now, IMO. It simply happens to be made up of a combination of smaller scale, more or less endemic, conflicts, rather than a single catastrophic global conflagration.

We are essentially living through the new "Thirty Years War," with the United States playing the role of the Spanish controlled HRE.

I believe technology will advance to a point where some applications are outright banned.

I believe our society will become more libertarian and will view our present day politicians as a bunch of fascists.

I believe that we will find and know and potentially make contact with intelligent extraterrestrial life.

I believe dimension jumping will be a reality but there will be no application to do such, as well as I believe time travel will be proven not just in theory but practice.

I believe teleportation will be possible but not practiced.

I believe the technology for flying cars will exist but will not be used due to difficulty with the technology

I believe cars will drive themselves (on roads).

I believe your cell phone will become your own personal computer - you just hook your phone up via USB cable to a monitor and there is your desktop.

There will certainly be holographic TV's and "help center assistants" or anything you would want a holographic program to do.

CD's and DVD's wont exist...

I also believe that most TV's and other interfaces will be touch screen - but the screen will be holographic.

I believe biological science will be able to grow new organs.

I believe nuclear energy will be the safest form of energy known to man kind.

I believe we will be off of fossil fuels do to the safety of nuclear power hence using nuclear power cells to power our vehicles..

There is a lot of potential for the future.

never bother with predicting the future, remember by now we would have mile high buildings daily trips to the moon personal robots and flying cars, and the soviet union would be the richest and most powerful country on the planet and dont forget there would only be a few computers owned only the riches companies and universities.

I've never been good with predictions, but I don't think the next 100 years will be a Kumbaya cakewalk.

More regional wars, with world powers being puppet masters for their allies;

Starving people will continue to starve as their governments pocket the country's wealth and the powerful line their own pockets;

As technology races forward, so will technological crime; Cyber-wars between world powers will most likely replace bullets and bombs; why risk soldiers and equipment when any western country can be brought to its knees by blacking out its power grid, and blowing out its computers?

The things I dreamed about for the 22nd century as a girl, I no longer believe in. Mankind will not be investigating the stars, because it will be busy trying to keep its own world from being devastated by man-made and natural disasters, and would rather invest in weapons and intelligence gathering than space exploration.

All in all, I am somewhat relieved that I will not be around to see what this century will bring into the next. The rich will still be rich, the poor will still be poor, the gap between them will continue to widen, and the powerful will still rule the world for their own benefit. In other words, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Shame, really.
