the joys of getting old

Just giving you the piss, mate. Out of curiosity, is this the first winter you're spending in your new house? If so how many cords are you expecting to use and what type of system are you heating?

I have been spending winters in this house 4 years now. The first year it was just a shell with no insulation or plumbing, BRRRRRR. Pretty much done now and I'm warm and cozy. I put in 6 cords so I think that will be plenty, I went ape s*** on insulation and caulking.

I agree. In spite of the millions of lasik pocedures done, the thought of it scares the hell out of me. My eyes are bad, but at least i can see with corrective lenses.

I know, I think I'll let some guy start cutting my eye ball with a laser beam. What could possibly go wrong? NO THANKS!

If I remember correctly you're pretty much off-grid, as well, with solar. Are you using direct heat, or a hot water system? The reason I ask, is I've been toying around with the idea of putting in a hot water solar system, and was wondering if that was something you looked into

Doc asked me if I ever had a severe blow to the head, not sure why that would cause a cataract but that's what he said. Got in a murder cycle wreck once that left me with a concussion and amnesia so maybe that's it, who knows.

Sawyerloggingon, I know why the doc asked you that, because when a cataract is forming in only one eye, it can be a sign of past trauma.

In the winter I use one of those on demand water heater which runs on propane. In summer I have solar hot water in the day time. My water comes from a spring that is 800 feet above my house. It runs through black irrigation pipe that is on top of the ground so it gets very hot. Low tech but it works.

It was the costs that eventually stopped me years ago.
I am so dependant on glasses though would be nice for the reast of my years not to have to use them
New fangled gizmos for the older crowd..who would have believed it?
