I'm sure everybody has wandered that what was the thought behind the smile they got at one time or another.
This post is kinda what that's all about the thoughts behind a smile.

When I was a lot younger a lad in my teens I can remember the smile I once had and the thought behind it.
It was an elderly person about 65 maybe 75 years of age as I looked up our eyes met said good afternoon.
I smiled but was thinking poor old guy his life is almost over.
Gotta remember this was before 60 became the new 40 or whatever

Today I am the old guy 65 to 75 years old .
Young people today look at me and smile I got an idea of what their thinking
I smile back but I'm thinking poor young person they get less opportunities and more debt to look foward to and their life will consist of not living merely surviving
Perhaps I'm being too pessimistic towards the next generation, perhaps not?:peace

Ladies and gentlemen I await your views or comments on this subject

It doesn't seem to me like I see hardly any genuine smiles anymore. What I see are diverted eyes, looking down at the cell phone to send a text. Very few people seem to even make eye contact anymore. It's sad.

Smile at them and remember you lived in the best decades man has ever had. It might get better, but so what? ;)

Very well said! My grandmother had an old wringer washer that fascinated me, and I loved watching her put clothes through the wringer. No dryer--they hung clothes out on the clothesline--or other conveniences we enjoy today, but I swear they were happier back then. People smiled! They worked hard, they helped each other, and there wasn't the constant bickering that we see today. :sigh:

Greetings, joG. :2wave:

Alas my friend I can not help to show compassion for these young people stepping into life.

Granted some are lazy and just play video games or join gangs, but not all and what of the ones who want to be responsible and work their way up?
With a 40% unemployment for college grads, and if these young adults are on from the wrong side of wealth can't play sports and grades are average , what of them?:peace

Well it is my belief if the young adults had the same opportunities today, perhaps they to would smile more perhaps they to would help each other.:peace

Very good point! It's got to be frustrating to have college loans, but no job to pay for them, so I guess I wouldn't be smiling much either!

I'm concerned about what's going to happen if we really do go to a 29-hour work week! What are people going to do?

As Ringo said, "You carry the weight, the weight of the world,
It's breakin' you down on your back like a boulder....."
It is certainly time for the tiki bar.

Well what I really fear is even if a revolution were put in play as badly as divided as America is today it would become another Civil War.:peace

Ah yes it's kinda like the world as become a hangman's noose hung around the neck of American taxpayers, and it get's tighter every day.:peace

It wouldn't be the sme as the last one, though...it could be worse. Back then, the fighting basically took place in the South over both preserving the union of the states, which Lincoln wanted, and a difference of opinion regarding existing lifestyles of the North versus the Old South..

This time, it probably would be a matter of the "haves" versus the "have-nots"...envy and greed, and frustration and anger...and that is not confined to any specific geograhical location. There are haters in every State who would like to blame all the wrongs in society on someone else...never themselves. How do you fight that, except by martial law involving everybody? That might be one reason why a lot of people have guns today...to protect their families and their possessions against those who would take, by force, that which they haven't earned, or worked for.

I hope it doesn't happen, because there are going to be a lot of dead people, on both sides, who are innocent of any wrongdoing. For our government to fan this divisiveness is criminal, IMO. We should be working together now, more than ever, because our debt is too large to ignore, and which will eventually cause far more pain than a civil war, which would be quelled quickly.

Happy Halloween, Presluc. :2wave:

I do it all the time.

Sometimes the reaction I get is a look like "are you crazy, or just a serial killer?"

Most of the time though, the reaction I get is a surprised and gratified return smile. Especially from waitresses.... I like people who bring me food. :)

Unless we can internalize international security at the Global level, it will get worse.

I was taught by authorities at a young age to wipe that stupid gin off of my face.

It didn't stick. :2razz:

For me in a lot of cases, I'll be somewhere and a woman will add her opinion on some topic to the conversation, and I'll just smile while thinking.... "The pile of rat turds in the corner had more value than your opinion on this topic."

Old people look at young people thinking, wow you are really in for it.

When i was younger id smile with the joy of life and want to share it with everybody.
Now i smile at people and hope they too can or have shared that joy at somepoint.

Imo, we've done enough for the international community , foreign aid, free trade, green cards amnesty for illegal immigrants ect.

Maybe we should start having more security and jobs for the American national level:peace

Me neither it is not the smile it is the true thought behind the smile that interests me.:peace
