Back to school!

Oh! Funny story time!

My first year of teaching I was a Title 1 teacher (I took small groups of kids out who need lots of help with reading/writing). I went into this first grade classroom and waited for my group of kids to be ready to go. I was wearing this jean jacket that had two pockets right over my breasts. This kid was standing next to me waiting for the rest of his group. He suddenly reached up and put the palm of his hand on my boob and said, "That's a cool pocket!" I looked at the aide who was standing beside me and we both just busted out laughing. LOL!

Pun ..... intended? or is it my warped humor?

they started the poor kids in my town back to school in late July. summer break should be memorial day until labor day. it hasn't been that way since the early 80s when i was a tiny kid, though.

they moved to year around school. i would have hated that.

There are many benefits to a year round school system. There's no doubt that a large amount of school time at the beginning of the year is essentially wasted reviewing what students learned before the break.

But I'm against it as well. I think there are other things in life which are important, and that school cannot be the only thing we want our kids to experience in their youth. Additionally, summer break is when kids go on vacation or play sports or just spend time down at the creek and there are many valuable things to be learned during that time as well.

the way i see it, you spend your entire life tied to a job. giving kids summers off before they enter the workforce isn't too much to ask. on our deathbeds, very few of us lament that we didn't work more. i had some pretty great summers, and going back to school in ****ing July would have been the ultimate buzzkill.

I agree completely. Kids need time to be kids. There is a very real value to that as well. And I say this as an educator.

School days are always the best days . Now I am missing all my school days and all the activities I had during that days.
