    a beautiful melody

No, it's not Beethoven, nor even Mozart, but one that I hear this time of year in the yard. A few years ago, I was out working in the garden, and I heard the sound of a bird which amazed me. It was long, melodious, and pierced the air with a longing for love.

It's the house finch, and I caught a couple of pix of one in the wildflower field this afternoon. This particular wildflower that this house finch is on, has seeds that they love to eat, once the flowers start going to seed. I thought a couple of you might appreciate the beauty of this little guy, and if you haven't heard one sing, there's a link to Cornell's site that has some bird sounds you can listen to. It's amazing what a big voice this little bird has.

And I was thinking Waltz Across Texas by Ernest Tubb, which is a mighty fine song.

I live on the edge of the desert. I don't think the birds left us this year except for maybe a weekend when they went to the Baja to party. We didn't have much of a winter at all. In fact, I was in Benson, Arizona in February (just a jump from Mexico) and I saw a Roadrunner the size of a turkey. No kidding. I don't think they sing. If so, this one would sound like Barry White.

I am very impressed with the pictures, lizzie! Those are beautiful birds.

Did you know that you can hang nesting cups or boxes under your eaves, or in another protected area on your house, and they will nest there? I had a pair that nested under the awning outside my window where I am sitting at the computer. They hatched and fledged 6 babies. It was really cool getting to watch them raise their babies!
