The governor in New York is pushing for a family leave act. It would initially cover 35% of an employee's wages, and be funded through a payroll tax. The governor sites his own personal issues involving the death of his father.

Sounds great, partially funded time off for certain serious/important family issues, but how will it affect small businesses, and especially new business/companies considering NY State. New York State is already considered unfriendly to small business.

What do you think?

I think Andy needs to stop telling others how to lead their lives and start doing what he does best, whatever that is.

'Free' always costs someone.

How primordial to still be struggling to provide decent working conditions.
All working Britons were legally allowed two weeks paid holiday a year back in the 1960's. The average is more than double that today, plus public holidays, and bereavement/family leave. It's factored into the employment remuneration package.

I think I will never have an ounce of respect for Cuomo. I hoped after he screwed up at HUD he would fade into obscurity. But sadly....

I think too that this will hurt small businesses badly, but don't expect old Andrew to shed tears over that.

I love how they promise things to people without talking to the people that will pay it.

cool so now you get to pay a tax to get 35% of your wage. that is an additional tax on top of NY
crazy high taxes anyway.

of course this fund or whatever will go broke and will need more money to support.
yet again we see the government screwing over working men and women to promise free things to other people.

with all this free crap being thrown around I don't see how I am going to be able to afford it.
I would never live in NY or CA.

It's great that Brits get that benefit. US citizens can get unpaid family leave, and depending on the employer, similar other benefits that are provided to you. In the 10 years (2004 to 2014) 3.4 million residents left NY. As people leave the state, revenue to the state decreases and businesses fail or move out of state because its easier and cheaper to run a business in other states. New Yorkers get more government aid per person from social programs than residents of any other state in the US. The total cost to residents of New York is about 10,000 per year per person for government benefits. This particular program would be paid by the employees reducing their remuneration. The cost and issue to business is long term temporary replacement of skilled employees, and more regulation by the state which by itself is causing businesses to leave New York.

I always like the idea of bureaucratic central planners, who know NOTHING about running a business( HI BARACK!) , telling businesses how much they should pay and how much leave they should give.
