and what was his excuse? In a message to students on his site, which has since been removed, Brown borrowed from Dole’s childhood memories, omitting only one line: “I am Mary and John Hanford’s daughter.”“I was raised to believe that there are no limits to individual achievement and no excuses to justify indifference,” the message reads. “From an early age, I was taught that success is measured not in material accumulations, but in service to others. I was encouraged to join causes larger than myself, to pursue positive change through a sense of mission, and to stand up for what I believe.”
Of course the irony here is nothing short of meteoric: Brown steals Dole's (most likely apocryphal) just-so story about accepting personal responsibility for one's behavior and then blames his underlings for using the wrong lie to validate his lies about his upbringing.Brown spokesman John Donnelly told the Boston Globe that the copied text was a staff mistake.
