kids left home alone, die in fire

I have a hard time believing that it was an accident at all - given her behavior.

How very convenient. Oh - the house just *happened* to catch fire when they were gone for a short while. Mmmhmm.

Ignorance knows no boundaries. Who in their right mind would leave such young children alone? Why wouldn't they have just taken the children with them, or get a sitter.

happens all too often. I worked with the foster care system for nearly 15 years as a foster parent and you'd be surprised at how many kids are in the system because the mother left them home alone. both of my adopted sons were taken by DHR because the cops found them wanderiing the streets at 2 a.m. after their mother's had left them home alone.

Memphis house fire leaves 3yo dead, Aunt just wants FOOD STAMPS??? - YouTube

Mom and aunt leave two boys, age 2 & 3, home alone. Die in house fire and all the aunt seems to care about is that she left her purse in the house and her foodstamp card got burned up.

what the ****??????

ok. they gave the fellow who cut the grass a ride back to his house
why did that require both of them to go and leave the kids unattended?

the aunt is a dubious character
that the fire could have been caused by someone throwing an incendiary device after they left. really?!?!?!

and laughing at the thought that she needs to check on her pocketbook to see if it burned
what a disgusting quasi-human

and there are a bunch of people who have no option but to leave their young children unattended - because they are without the means to provide child care in order to work

but this incident does not pass the smell test

Disgusting. Sadly some people just don't care.

Then, you get them dressed and ready and take them with you, considering these people were not going to work.

Yeah really - they were in their car driving around.

Might as well have just overdosed them on cold meds like so many other parents have done, or left them in a vehicle over night.

Posted on another forum a few years ago:

I'm having my new boyfriend over for dinner. How much cold medicine should I give my 3-year-old to make sure she sleeps through the evening? She weighs about 30 pounds.

Major infraction for my response. People are nuckin' futz.

you misunderstood my post then
i am in no way defending the women who left their kids to take the handiman back to his home
that did not require both of them to give him a ride
one could - and should - have stayed home with the kids

but what i was also noting is that massive numbers of young kids are left home unattended as their parents (or parent) are without the means to provide for child care while they leave home to do something they must: go to work to provide for the kids
if that was the reason in this instance that the kids had been left alone [recognizing that it was NOT], would we still be so outraged?

Yes. Yes we would.

you would be outraged that the kids died in the fire because their parent had left them alone in order to go to work?!

Yup. A few years ago, there was a woman in the apartment above me with herself and 4 children under 8 years old packed into a little 2-bedroom apartment.

She left her children completely alone at 9 in the evening to go out and party. An hour or two later, my ceiling started leaking.

The 4-year-old had tried to run a bath and didn't turn off the water. The damage was tremendous, but at least she or her younger brother didn't drown. They very easily could have.

Insanely, the kids were left with her.

The fact that you seem to find that incredulous is scary. WTF??

Yes because if you can't afford daycare, you can get help paying for it. Also, a family member, a friend, whatever. You NEVER leave children that young alone for any reason. If you can't get a sitter, then you should take the day off from work.

I remember when I was in college, I couldn't get a sitter for my son, and I called my school, and I ended up bringing him in with me for that day.

If I were the fire marshal, I'd be doing an arson investigation on this fire.

I would be. There is NO reason to leave children like that at home alone. If she doesn't qualify for title XX then stay the **** home with your kids and collect welfare. Then again that would be for someone who actually gives a **** about their children and gets help that is available for mothers who need help. I know plenty of single moms who do it so there is no excuse.

there are literally millions of kids in a similar circumstance
what should be done about them?

in this country, we must have a license to do something so mundane as to go fishing
but anyone can have a kid
and if they are in poverty, we will then supply them with a home and a check
we - as a nation - incentivize this behavior
