Well...there are some areas where "zero tolerance" is necessary, I would think.

Like, for example, operating a nuclear reactor. Or handling nuclear waste.

Or similar things.


But unless we're talking about nuclear reactor training school or something, a school isn't such a place. Especially grade school. Or a freaking kindergarten, for god’s sake.

Yep, that's exactly where they're hearing it. I had a student just the other day singing it. The thought of suspending him never entered my mind.

The kid could have also heard it from those stupid Kidz Bop CDs you see on infomercials. There are songs on those which have somewhat surprised me.

Looks like the Colorado legislature is seriously considering the sage advice offered by DP contributors, in addition to other factors, and will now consider eliminating the "Zero Tolerance" regulations.

"D'Avonte's suspension comes as the Colorado Legislature considers a measure that would eliminate zero-tolerance discipline policies related to violence and weapons that were enacted after the Columbine High School shootings."

Not only is it absurd in relation to a 6 year old, it is absurd in relation to any student as saying I'm sexy and I know it is not sexual harassment.

Zero tolerance with grammar school kids is absurd....HS better and adults its fine...by adulthood you know better and your responsible for your actions.
Teachers and Administrators should be taking in all the variables with an incident when it occurs with a minor...applying good common sense....and reacting appropriately...they are supposed to be the "EXPERTS" and thats what we pay them for.....Now having said that.
Idiot organizations like the ACLU suing schools and costing taxpayers gadzillions have make schools gunshy on making alot of decisions, so they took the decision making out with zero tolerance....The myth of the ACLU is...is that they are fully funded by GOVT...NOT TRUE...they also get paid when they litigate....
