A retailer has vowed to follow up on measures taken by a mall after a woman lodged a legal complaint after encountering a bat while trying on a pair of pants at a luxurious shopping mall in Istanbul.

“All our products and stores have the same standards as global branches. The store in which the incident reportedly occurred is in an outdoor shopping mall. The incident … was also unusual and out of the ordinary for us. We support the statement which was made by the shopping mall in which we are the renter and we declare that we will follow the measures to be taken. We express our sorrow about the incident that [the woman] has experienced,” the company said in a written statement about the incident on Oct. 20.

By the linked article I see no reason why she was forced to get rabies shots. It does not mention her being bit or scratched. If it didn't break skin, then she can't get rabies.

From what? Rabies cannot be transmitted save through an open wound. Something not mentioned in the article. Now I can't say what was mentioned on the video, since it is not in English and I don't speak that particular language. So the article is all I have to go off of, which only says she cam into contact with the bat (not a vector for rabies transmission), and made no mention of any risk, save maybe an implied one in getting the rabies shots.

Then she is clueless and uneducated and put herself through a lot more pain than she needed to. Such is the price of ignorance.

Add: I did find something about an aerosol transmission vector, but the article says it is extremely rare, usually with scientists.

She would not be the first professor to have gotten something wrong that wasn't in her field of study.
