Current Mood: | Last night at the Metal Masters Tour Last night I went to see the Metal Masters Tour with Testament, MotorHead , Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath w/ Dio singing) and Judas Priest. They performed at the Superpages.com Amphitheatre in Dallas Tx. It was a good show but it was miserably hot. I missed Testament, we drank a few brewskis in the parking lot during there performance. Motorhead rocked, Lemmy started the show by proclaiming loudly "We are Motorhead, and we play rock 'n' roll," they sounded as good as I remembered back in the 80's.They played Metropolis, Over The Top, Killed By Death, Ace of Spades, and Overkill. After Overkill Lemmy leaned his bass against an amp and departed from the stage. The feedback was deafining. Heaven and Hell performed Mob Rules, Sign of the Southern Cross, Neon Knights, Children of the Sea, Heaven and Hell, and a few others. They were good but Dio dosn't have the voice he once had, not bad though considering he is 66 years old. Geezer Butler was solid and Tony Iommi lived up to the legend. Drummer Vinny Appice did a kick ass drum solo that in my opinion was a highlight of there performance. Dio got the crowd to sing along on Heaven and Hell. It brought back memories from 1981 when I saw them on the original Heaven and Hell tour. All and all it was an excellent performance. Judas Priest opened with Nostradamus the title track to there new album. Then they did Metal Gods, Painkiller, and my personal favorite Electric Eye. Breaking the Law, and Youv'e got an other thing commig was there oncore. What can say except theres a good reason Priest was the headliner. They freakin rocked. I'll leave it at that. ~ Sgt Rock

I saw Judas Priest at the Hemmerlein Halle in Nurnberg Germany in 1984. Recently I saw them at the superpages.com center at Fair Park in Dallas Texas. 24 years later and they still rock.

The sound sucked for Motorhead (not their fault).

Two of my buds and I took the U Bahn (subway) downtown Nurnberg. We had two bota bags one filled with Jagermeister one with Old No. 7, two pipes, and a chunk of bubblegum red hashish almost as big as your fist. When we got there the first band was on stage. I forget who it was. Anyway we were gettin ready for Teddy. People were passing pipes around. Everyone was sharing and it seemed everyone had some to share. Terrible Ted came on stage and blew the fans away with his screaming gibson birdland. What can I say, Ted was and still is a wildman. Then Priest came on and I remember they put on one hell of a show. By this time (1984) Judas Priest was already a seasoned band of 10 years. It showed because they jelled as a band. I remember Halfords voice piercing my ears, It was mind bending. Well enough of this, it was such a long time ago and my memory is a bit fuzzy. Someone shoot me Im old and reminiscing. ~ Sgt Rock |

Lean: Independent Gender: | Re: Last night at the Metal Masters Tour I made the show at a very soggy Verizon Amphitheater in Selma TX last night. Motorhead and Priest were the highlights for me, it has been since '86 since I saw JP. Halford still has his pipes, though they are not quite what they once were. The only trouble was the muddy conditions due to rain, but we need it so wtf!
Talk about an expensive and wide ranging two weeks! Last week I caught Steely Dan in Houston, Metal Masters last night and tomorrow night, my last concert for a long while...........................

With great modern bands like, Killswitch Engage, Underoath, Strike Against, and Trivium it's a bit scary why older metal is still being presented as if its current and popular.
Did I mention, Killswitch Engage? That band symbolizes the change rock music has needed, yet they are not mainstream enough to make such a progressive change.
Listen to Killswitch and other MODERN bands and I'm sure, the older listeners will appreciate such metal beauty. \\M//
