Smooth Music Cruise 2009.

Surprising the wife. Oh yes...

Larry Carlton, Acoustic Alchemy, Mindy Abair, Shilts, Steve Cole, Marion Meadow...it goes on. Lord I can't wait, we really need this. This whole career change is very rewarding but insanely overwhelming. This is gonna be awesome.

The best part will be the up close and personal interaction with the artists. As long as I get to sit and chat with Larry Carlton and the guys from Acoustic Alchemy it will be all worth it.

Sounds like fun. I'm just getting into Jazz myself. Who would you recommend looking up?

you didn't ask me, but Jeff won't mind me jumping in. you should totally check out Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, and John Coltrane. have those guys for breakfast. next comes lunch...

Jeff, when you're on this cruise, I'll be in my office listening to "The Royal Scam" over and over, and probably crying.

Thanks Nifty.

I'm into Coltrane and Davis right now - great stuff. I'll check out the others as well... thanks again.

I'll echo what nifty said here with regards to recommendations. But just remember jazz is so varied in it's style it's like saying "rock" yet meaning everything from Buddy Holly to Pantera. My personal favorites are Steely Dan (of course), Larry Carlton, Pat Methany, George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, Acoustic Alchemy, and maybe John McLaughlin (for some crazy stuff).

And nifty...given the inspiration that Larry has provided me over the last several years I'll probably be crying too!

Oh yeah, round about midnight is sounding good…

I’m finding it is incredibly varied. I’m not crazy about the stuff that goes a little wild & hard to follow the rhythm. Maybe I’m just too green for that yet…

I’m liking the Coltrane, Davis, Monk (so far) type stuff. I really dig Blossom Dearie’s voice… The Sinatra type stuff is good too. I liked the Sleepless in Seattle soundtrack…

You guys have inspired me to get more serious about my search…

Thanks

Peace
