First, before people get bent out of shape about this, it probably isn't for what you think, and it is the Marine Corps that wants to do it, for reasonable reasons. I do find it fascinating, and did you know that the Few, the proud, the Marines catchphrase was part of the advertising hall of fame thingy?

So the Corps is exploring the possibility of using a new tagline with the service’s upcoming advertising campaign, which is slated to launch next year, said Lt. Col. John Caldwell, a spokesman for Marine Corps Recruiting Command.

“’The Few, The Proud’ does a great job distinguishing ourselves from the other branches and making us prestigious to recruits, but it doesn’t say anything about what we do or why we exist,” Caldwell told Marine Corps Times. “We believe the new campaign products require a unique tagline to achieve the effort’s objectives.”

Caldwell did not say specifically what the new advertising campaign will show, but he said it is based on three concepts: fighting self-doubt to become a Marine, fighting the nation’s battles and fighting for what’s right in our communities.

When I first heard about this, my initial reaction was that it was ****ing stupid to replace something as good as "the few, the proud...". However, I find myself thinking that if the new slogan manages to capture those 3 concepts, it could be really good. Note, the same advertising company that came up with "the few, the proud" is working on the new slogan.

Can't wait to see how good the new slogan will be. I also can't wait to see everyone's panties get in a collective knot because the Marines are doing something new, and change is scary.

What a lot of touchy freely horse**** we see from our Marines under Obama.

I would rather they spend their time figuring out what they are going to do for airplanes if they should need to go to war.

You know war, what the marines are there for, which apparently the Marines under Obama have forgotten by the sound of it.

Yep......... great move!

Financing new taglines by hiring advertising agencies is always a smart move when your equipment sits idle do to lack of maintenance and funding.

These assholes just have to leave their mark, and when when you feel like you cant get anywhere doing war fighting because the budgets get decided by someone else and there is never enough money and it is only in the right place if luck strikes so here is what you do.....change the uniform, change the advertising campaign, or write new policy for the conduct of the troops.

SEE! All better now, their lives have meaning.

It is probably a bad move, but it's a move!

*SARCASM*

Yes, I know I am a bitch tonight.

SORRY!

You do realize that there is a reason all branches of the service advertise, and have been doing so, basically forever?

Laughably disconnected from reality.

You don't go effing with logo's and phrases when your equipment is broke.

And yes...as a retired Navy slob, I do realize the value of recruiting.

What am I missing? How do the marines fight for what's right in our communities?

It was not broken when they came up with "the few, the proud". Fixing what was not broken at the time was a huge benefit. Also, do you wait until your motor seizes to change your oil?

Community service is something important to most marines. They do a ****load of community service work, not to mention helping during disasters such as hurricanes and flood.

Edit: needless to say, that is not just the marines who do this to be clear.

Awwww.... don't you worry. The Marines are still spending their time on figuring that kind of thing out.

Oh, wait! I just remembered they're the Toys for Tots supporters. I forgot about that. And I was thinking they were meaning community protection.

Duh. Tx.

I wish the Army would change ours. "Go Army" sounds like a cheerleaders cry.

"Be all that you can be" was pretty legit.

Only a liberal would believe that spending money on taglines is important, while Marine pilots are going without seat time, and the grunts cannibalize parts to keep what they have running due to budget cutbacks.

Dude, cannibalization has been ongoing since long before I joined, it is just a part of the process. And the few hours of seat time the new tagline would cost is not going to make a difference. New, quality recruits, that might...

"Be all that you can be" was pretty legit.

"It's not just a job, it's an adventure" was a really good one too.

"Look Sharp, Be Sharp, Go Army!" END 1971....Top Shelf

"Today's Army Wants to Join You"END 1980....I get the reason they thought this was a good idea, but no.

"Be All You Can Be"END 2001...Top Shelf

Army of One"END 2006....no one understood it, crap from start to finish.

"Army Strong"Current....Middling.

Wait, are you in the Army but dont know the current slogan?

It is ARMY STRONG.

You're welcome.

The full thing is actually "There's strong, and then there's ARMY STRONG."

Which is still ****ing retarded. If the Army cared about it's soldiers and developing them as much as it did about coming up with new slogans, phrases and creeds, maybe morale wouldn't be plummeting.

I can recite the Army Song and the Signal Corps March. **** lotta good that's going to do to me when my terminal isn't working? But nah, let's waste 20 minutes everyday so we can line up and all sing it together.

Good to know they aren't changing it because someone got butthurt about it.

Having said that: It's not unusual for companies to change slogans for certain products or the company at large after a time. The Marine Corps. is no different i guess. Be interesting to see what the new one will be if they decide to do it.

I highly doubt this will do anything. How many people here paid any mind to the slogan of the Marines or any other Military branch back when they were eighteen? Anyone?

The "We do more before 9am...." commercials were very talked about in the day.

BUT, this is about branding..."The few, The proud, The MARINES" has been very effective at getting guys who want to do manly things in a cuck world, guys who want to be part of something special and rare, which is why the MARINES dont want it anymore. Now the Marines dont want guys like that anymore, because they imagine it will cause sexual assault problems. More meek guys are wanted now, guys who more conform to the majority cuck culture. Watch what they come up with, they will prove me right.
