Army shrinks to smallest level since before World War II...

And the US Army still remains the unrivaled land force in the world.

So what?

Thanks obama, for being an inept putz!

This is something that has been in the works since WWII. The government never intended to keep the military at those high levels of manning.

The army is clear not big enough to handle the zombie apocalypse.

I disagree. The military already has built a zombie apocalypse bridge here in Norfolk that I have walk across this morning in fact. They just need to work on making them more sturdy. Two people on the stairs at a time is definitely not going to work during an attack.

I really need to take a picture of this bridge. It's really scary and definitely looks like it belongs in a zombie apocalypse movie.

I intended to ask who the op was planning to fight. I see now.

Unless you have a Crystal ball and can insure that we'll never have to fight anyone, we have to be prepared for the biggest possible threat.

Who are you planning to fight using thousands and thousands of troops?

I mean I'm planning on going into the service, and so are several of my friends.....

There's still people who want to make it career anyway.

I never did get a message from you. When are you leaving for Basic? Bye the way......Gunny retired 3 months ago and is sailing off some god forsaken island in the Caribbean. :) I got a facebook from him.

We're we planning on fighting the wars that we have fought? The answer is, no. There not a single war that was planned in advance.

Iraq.

Why do you fear not having a vast cumbersome expensive army?

You didn't?

I thought I sent you a message.

I still have one more year of high school to finish up first so not for a bit.

Greetings, apdst. :2wave:

There was an article on Yahoo today, via Reuters, entitled "Women will have to register for the draft."

"A US Senate Committee has approved legislation that would require American women to register for the military draft, setting the stage for a fight in Congress over the historic shift in policy....

I have read previously that the number of our military personnel are the lowest they have been since WW2, and the military supposedly agrees that "true and pure equality" is what women apparently want, but this is an unusual step in an odd direction, IMO.

Strange that this article appeared today - Friday the 13th, - too! I can't see this becoming law, but this has been one of the weirdest years in so many areas so far, so I guess anything is possible.

It's about time; there hasn't been a real existential threat to the US since the fall of the Soviets and that was a quarter century ago.

After they succeed seceding. :2razz:

Then I don't think they would be fighting after that. Pretty sure it would be when they first announce secession. Otherwise, fighting would seem pointless if they've already let them secede.

I have always loved the military for its ability to train men and women. I do not think they should reduce personnel, but rather use the military to provide an alternative to college (college graduate here) that is actually useful. Our military is a driving scientific force, engineering phenom, and exciting experience. I think its most important roles today are its non combat functions. And we are under-utilizing the military. Right now I live on a highway built 60 years ago by the military, in an apt building built by the military. So many options and possibilities. Sure keep automating the combat roles, and protect the lives of our Kids. But still take the kids and teach em a great way of life. Soldiers make excellent employees, when they don't have PTSD.

I also support the Secession of Texas, I lived there for a time. I still have nightmares about the experience.

I have met the militarily of many allied countries and have made life long friends of some of them (we train them in Mesa and then follow up in their country). One thing each country has in common (at least the ones that buy and fly Longbows) is they all serve mandatory national service of some kind right out of high school. I take that back. All of them except us.
