Military never uses drugs to numb you when they Dentist work ever?

How true is this? I get different answers from different people. Given the age we live in I dont see why they would have to do it without drugs. I mean we have adequate medicine now. Its not like when we had barbers chopping off limbs for a cut, and had no really good disinfectant or numbing medications. Is the Military really this insane? This also seems kind of stupid since if you dont numb someone what is stopping them from biting your finger off from the pain? Why would anyone think its better to do it without drugs?

I have had dental work done twice by the military, and both times either novacaine or gas or both were used for dental surgery. Infact after if it was major surgery opiates were prescribed. I mean come on now, trying to do such work without numbing them would easily lead to death from pain shock, given the amount of nerves in the human jaws.

It'd also massively increase the risk of botched operations and additional injury, given how much more a patient without pain killer will tend to buck and thrash around during the procedure.

They use numbing agents as required. But be forewarned, a 2-striper "Dentist" in the AF is not going to have much experience.

I broke one of my front teeth off on the monkey bars while sliding on the Alaskan ice when I was 8. Mom took me to the on base Dentist to see what he could do about my predicament. The idiot filed down my other front tooth to be closer in length to the broken one. Mom was pissed! I was unable to bite through a meat sandwich for most of my life. The broken tooth I got lined in 1985. The one the idiot filed down is now an implant.

I bite the heads off of live chickens at the Texas State Fair.

What dentist? The Navy just takes 3 guys to hold you down, and the biggest fattest CPO (who normally plays King Neptune in his off hours) then smashes you in the jaw and knocks out the bad tooth.

Sorry, i have no idea where you are getting all of these answers. Why not just make a single thread, then post all of your questions there? Trust me, there are a lot of honest veterans here that can answer them for you in a single thread.

And yes, they use pain killers, like any other dentist.

20 years in the Army. Yes, the numb you. When I was in Basic Training I had a wisdom tooth removed. They refused to put me under for only one tooth but they numbed me. Later in my career I got the other three removed all at the same time and not only did they numb me, they put me to sleep. The Army also gave me my vasectomy and you better believe they numbed me. I had an ingrown toe nail cut out once and they numbed me.

I yanked one of mine out myself. (Granted, it was a loose baby tooth.)
