Your post is an excellent demonstration of the need for education in this country! I couldn not have made a better argument, thanks!!!

In my opinion we must find away to spread knowledge through education so the next generations at least have a chance.

Personally I have nothing to gain from this after 35 yra in the factories a car wreck and past 60 I can only wish the best for the next generations , to the young upcomers ,I say God speed,or good luck to you.
I also am no longer invested in todays school system. And while I certainly advocate blowing up the old I am one of those that believe teachers...GOOD teachers ought to be paid MORE. I'm more than willing to spend more tax dollars (especially local taxes) for BETTER schools. I think it is stupid to continue to dump money into a failed system and think those that aren't willing to engage in their own education ought to be removed. Build more prisons. Good riddance.

Having a higher education standard will pay off in the long run. I believe people rise or fall to the level of expectation. And in concert with the discussions on the 'vanishing middle class' I think it might be fair to examine the roll family and expectation plays in the success of students. People need to stop with the politically correct bull**** and come out swinging. If people want to see equality and higher standards and better economic opportunities then the COMMUNITIES need to have a higher expectation of their community. Thats across the board, including every inner city ghetto and Appalachian trailer park.

You are now a citizen of another country that is unconcerned about whether the US prospers in the future?

Often pick one line and ignore substantive parts of discussions? Wait...I forgot who I am talking to...Of course you do. If you have anything more substantive than a mousefart to contribute...holla...

(Hint...you missed the part where I said I would actually be willing to invest MORE in effective education...but dont let the chance to be a snippy little **** get in the way of things...)

There is no education system that is both more affordable and more effective for all US citizens than the public school system, so the rest of your point was moot. That is why it wasn't addressed.

Because the modern school system is effective? Really? Where...in wealthy to upper middle income neighborhoods?

There is no other system both more affordable and effective. The main problems with inner-city students are socio-economic. You will get no argument from me those conditions need to be addressed.

Re: Is cutting education a good idea???

You guys think that if kids weren't going to go to public schools, it is like they are unable to learn on their own. I feel like the current system, as well as our financial system, brings about this ideology of elitism, where they assume everyone else is stupider than they are. They base this assumption on the first pretense that they witness people being dumb, and that does happen. I do not deny it, but we aren't perfect beings either. The second is so that they feel better about themselves.

This shows in your post. You assume that children are stupid vessels of flesh, for if they did not go to a school system, they would not be able to live, or at least live a good quality of life. What I am arguing, is that the current system is so bad, that the majority of kids would benefit more if they just rode their bike to the public library, than to participate in the current system. It isn't like knowledge is only obtained once you cross the doors of your school. Events happen in your life, and the world will present to you knowledge varying from economic theories to human behavior, to effective survival strategies, and more. Also, in the old days when the family worked together to survive, the children would learn from their elders. Another source of information to learn from.

I will state it again. Our system is so worthlessly bad, that any financial resources allocated to this system is a waste. It should either be used to create a better system, or used on a different program entirely.

Hey.............the American public has always hated and bitterly complained about its public education system. No matter how much we invest in it, no matter how good it gets, the public still complains, and hates on it. Therefore, it should be cut down to the barest necessities, or abolished. Just get rid of it. It's a major source of popular whining and venting. It's also enormously expensive. Give the public what it wants. Make the public happy. ABOLISH PUBLIC EDUCATION. Put it squarely on the shoulders of parents and guardians.
