COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Columbus Police Department is investigating after three churches there were vandalized with spray paint. Vandals painted religiously fueled messages on the facades of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, East Columbus Christian Church and Lakeview Church of Christ overnight on Saturday, according to police. A member of St. Bartholomew said "INFIDELS!" and "Quran 3:151? were written in black spray paint on the exterior of the church. When translated into English, the cited Quran verse reads, "We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve for what they have associated with Allah of which he had not sent down (any) authority. And their refuge will be the fire, and wretched is the residence of the wrongdoers."

Nassim Khaled of the Islamic Society of Columbus thinks the message behind the verse has been taken out of context because it refers to a time when people were persecuting Muslims. Other members of the Islamic Society also condemned the graffiti and offered to help clean it up. "The first reaction was I was very sad," Khaled said. "We are almost certain that it's someone from outside of our community or it's an unstable person.".....snip~

I hope it's some asshole trying to make Muslims look bad.

Good to hear Muslims in the area made a stand against it.

I seriously doubt that Islamists would use graffiti to get their message across. If that were the case, the Middle East would be a peaceful place - ugly with graffiti all over the place - but peaceful.

What has started? I've lived in the metro for 15 years now (12 right in Minneapolis proper), and I haven't noticed many churches being vandalized by the Somalians. In fact, pretty much every Somalian I've met is pretty much like an American - many are nice, some are raging assholes...you know, normal.

Mornin Beaudreaux. :2wave: Could be kids.....but then how many of them know Number verses of the Quran? What about supporters of ISIL and its Caliphate now? We do know they have supporters here in the US.

ISIL does have supporters here.

All anyone would have to do is a quick Google search to find a Koran verse to quote, however. I used the English version of Koran (Qur'an) on purpose.

Maybe attention whores who're not Muslim. I suffer constant verse-quoting from Christianists. They're so consumed by it they assume that everyone else knows what the reference means. Come to think of it, I've only ever seen Koran verses quoted when some internet crusader is trying to prove how evil Islam is.

Yeah, all one needs do is follow Twitter.....you should see the tweets that come from overseas from these Terrorist Pukes.

I still spell it that way to.....yeah that's true, people do carry the tech on them.

Although, if there is video footage.....then the Cops should know by now if it was kids or not.

My guess is convert Muslim.

I could see a casual "gonna make muslims look bad" type spraying "infidels" in english, but a Koranic verse written in decipherable Arabic? That took time and research. I am not saying it took alot, just saying that most simple attention getters would not have bothered.

Hardly surprising since the USA is primarily Christian.....

OR that's what I would have said, then I saw that you're an Englishmen. Still, even with the rising irreligious chunk of your population. I'd imagine most people are familiar with major bible verses given the British Isles are historically Christian post-antiquity.

Anyway, it's not an unfounded assumption for them to make.

I'd venture to suggest that most British people wouldn't know a verse by it's number. I recall 1 Kings 21:21 from my schooldays, but that's because it was rude!
