CHICAGO (Reuters) - A Chicago police commander who had been praised for his crime fighting in some of the city's roughest neighborhoods appeared in court on Thursday to face charges he put a gun in a suspect's mouth, officials said.



Commander Glenn Evans, who headed a busy district on the city's west side, has been relieved of his duties pending the case's outcome, according to Chicago police. Evans was charged on Wednesday with aggravated battery and official misconduct in the capture of a suspect on Jan. 30, 2013, according to Sally Daly, a spokeswoman for the Cook County State's Attorney's office. At Thursday's hearing Evans was released on his own recognizance, said Laura Morask, one of his defense attorneys.....snip~

He really shouldn't be doing that sort of thing. That said he has a very tough beat to patrol. I hope he is recruiting the neighbors to his side against the would be thugs and the gang bangers.

I think he should be put back on duty obviously. Its a high stress job and all.

Suspecting abuse charges are made by thugs, I'll give the benefit of doubt for now.

No doubt, case of self defense. Surprising the "thug" didn't have a gun, ain't it?

They should do it like they did on 'The Wire". Set up a "hamsterdam" where the bangers go and operate.

Kinda like they used to do in Chicago in the Vice districts - contain illegal activity to a small area.

Quite possibly, not sure if they do that type of thing these days, but years ago possibly or probably.

As a person in their 20's who worked and lived in Chicago, my greatest fear was being pulled over by cops, which happened on a few occasions. I always tried to present a professional image and answered their questions yes sir, or no sir. Saw very few policewomen back in those days. Chicago was a bit anal retentive back then. Cops were mainly looking for long hairs, dope smokers and such.
