If any newspaper would have an inside track in Vienna, it would most likely be Der Spiegel.

Like everyone else, I'll wait and see how this plays out. But one can't say the source is problematic or the logic above is faulty.
None of t you have written about in Der Spiegel meets even a single judicial standard. Not one.

Nor indeed is Der Spiegel likely to be in touch with the complex reality of inter tribal relations that make up Lebanon and likely to be able to discern, alone, what is fact and what is fiction.

I have no problem with Der Spiegel, I have a huge problem with tabloid justice, even when the journalistic format is relativly respected.

It still begs the question, Der Spiegel is hardly a natural selection for the leak that that produced the story. For the very reasons you list above, most people, at least Arabs, will tend to thing that the leak in such a carefully selected 'neutral' position is indicative of planning behind the leak for political reasons. There are parties both inside and outside of Lebanon who are hostile to Hiz'boallah, hence my curiosity about the source of the leak which would potentially say as much for the veracity of the information as would the story itself.

The likely political soucrce for the story is one of probably many reasons that you do not see the story gaining a whole lot of credibility in Arab circles.

Whether it is true or not, the issue needs to be handled under judicial, not journalistic standards.

What on earth are you babbling about? Judicial standard? It's a story in the news, not a barrister journal. Our *Breaking News* forum is filled with similar releases from global news organizations. Hizb'Allah got some bad ink. Deal with it.

I read it (gree's post) once tashah, and responded simmlarly to this (within myself). Then I gave him the benifit of the doubt that he is merely advising that people reserve judgement untill more concrete evidence emerges. Rather than that speculation (recognised as speculation) is off the cards.

I can udnerstand your response. But if I give him the benifit of the doubt, I can also understand his.

And here I thought we were trying to find a way to deal with it that would avoid a civil war in Lebanon. My mistake.

Like sweep it under the carpet? That isn't our decision. That's up to the Lebanese.

I never thought otherwise. Some folks here simply assume or take it as an article of faith that I have some sort of inculcated dislike and distaste for anything Arab. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I think I would have cardiac arrest if some of you folks admitted that the Arab world has plenty of warts and tossed them out for analysis and discussion sans Israel. Sadly, I don't believe that is possible in this forum with the current ambiance.

Really? Wow. Thats a real shame. Of course it does, and id be happy to talk about them.
I presume you have noticed by now that I am a firm believer in the rights of indigenous peoples to self determination. This is my bias. And it colors my perspectives to both Israel, the United States, and any other agressive or colonial power.

You say you would like to talk about them, but even in this post you bring up Israel, the United States, and the colonial powers. Is it something in the water?
