Barack Obama (live — and with an Israeli-American flag pin on his lapel)
By Ami Eden on Jun 4, 2008 in AIPAC policy conference, Featured | ShareThis
10:21 He raises the anti-Obama e-mails. “Let me know if you see this guy named Barack Obama, because he seems kind of scary.”
10:22 When I visit AIPAC I am among friends, true friends.
10:22 Obama praises AIPAC’s bottom-up approach, no doubt an allusion to his own philosophy.
10:24 Echoing his comments to Jeffrey Goldberg about his early admiration for Israel and Zionism.
10:24 Bringing up his great uncle.
10:25 Gets it right this time.
10:26 Expanding on the Holocaust theme, recalling Ike’s commitment to making sure there was evidence of the Shoah.
10:27 “We must mean what we say when we speak the words ‘Never Again.’” Standing O.
10:27 Another big applause line: “As president I will never compromise when it comes to Israel’s security.”
10:28 JTA’s Uri Heilman notes that plenty of people are staying seated during the standing Os.
10:29 “John McCain and I” share bipartisan commitment to Israel.
10:30 Making the case that U.S. foreign policy in recent years has hurt Israel. He rejects the approach of those who would “intensify failed status quo” or blame Israel for the problems in the Middle East. 10:32 “Those who threaten Israel, threaten us.” | Barack Obama (live — and with an Israeli-American flag pin on his lapel) | JTA Election Central
He is hitting home runs with every paragraph almost.
Go to the link to see the remainder of the speech which just concluded.
I wonder how the anti-Israel posters will like Obama now.

What many of Israel's critics fail to understand or wish to ignore is that Israel is a strategic ally and reliable partner for the United States. The bilateral relationship is in the national interest of the United States. Given this national interest, while the divisions between Democrats and Republicans are particularly sharp at this point in history, there is no partisan divide on Israel's place in American considerations. There is a broad and deep consensus among mainstream political leaders in the U.S. on the value of that relationship.
Before AIPAC that bipartisan consensus was fully on display. Senator McCain declared: The threats to israel's security are large and growing and America's commitment must grow as well. I strongly support the increase in military aid to Israel scheduled to begin in October. I am committed to making certain Israel maintains its qualitative military edge... in a world full of dangers, Israel and the United States must always stand together.
The State of Israel stands as a singular achievement in many ways and not the least is its achievement as the great democracy of the Middle East. If there are ties between America and Israel that critics of our alliance have never understood perhaps that's because they do not understand the love of liberty and the pursuit of justice. But they should know--they should know those ties cannot be broken. We were broght together by shared ideals and by shared adversity; we have been comrades in struggle and trusted partners in the quest for peace. We are the most natural of allies and like Israel itself--that alliance is forever.
Similarly, Senator Obama proclaimed: Our alliance is based on shared interests and shared values. Those who threaten Israel threaten us. Israel has always faced these threats on the front lines. And I will bring to the White House an unshakeable commitment to Israel's security.
That starts with ensuring Israel's qualitative military advantage. I will ensure that Israel can defend itself from any threat--from Gaza to Tehran. Defense cooperation between the United States and Israel is a model of success, and must be deepened...
Let me be clear. Israel's security is sacrosanct. It is non-negotiable. The Palestinians need a state that is contiguous and cohesive, and that allows them to prosper--but any agreement with the Palestinian people must preserve Israel's identity as a Jewish state, with secure, recognized and defensible borders. Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided. |

I love this. What seems to be happening here is mass confusion. No one has chosen to declare anything on this thread. And why? Because the idiot Left have built a fantasy upon which only the Republican Right are "hawkish" and stubborn. Now that Democrat Obama (their Jesus) has come out on the side of reality instead of the liberal fantasy world view, the Left doesn't know what to make of the world. And is the Right supposed to applaud a liberal like Obama?
Political slavery at its best.

Lean: Independent Gender: | Re: Obama at AIPAC: “Those who threaten Israel, threaten us.” I was going to vote either Gravel or Paul, maybe kussinich, I also knew that I will be forced to choose a lesser of the evils candidate because those guys cant win in an election all about money and special interest groups like AIPAC funding and giving enormous voting power to the candidates of their preference. The Paul was a straight talker, no bull, no hypocricy, what you see is what you get..Obama appeared to seem to atleast care, someone who would not put ideology ahead of rationality and justice....but I am wrong.
Obama disgusts me now, he is the biggest hypocrite of them all. Hillary and Mccain never wanted real justice for the palestinians, but atleast they were honest about their bias from the begining. Obama gave me hope we could really have an even handed just american help, but with the comments he made on my beloved Al-Quds, my holy Jerusalem, that it will stay the "eternal undivided capital" of my Zionist ethnic cleanser and occupier...neglecting 1400 years of palestinian arab muslim and christian roots and union to Jerusalem, he proved to be just as slimy as all other politician assholes stuffing their pockets with AIPAC money.
Im voting nader. **** Obama. |

Political slavery at its best. | Perhaps you have bought into the right wing fantasy that only conservatives can protect America. I don't know why you think that this support of Israel is a surprise to Obama supporters. I think the right wing propaganda has you believing that he is tied to Hamas. Otherwise, I don't know where anyone could have gotten that impression. |
