U.S. Poised to Invade Iran

MOSCOW, March 30 (RIA Novosti) - Russian intelligence has information that the U.S. Armed Forces have nearly completed preparations for a possible military operation against Iran, and will be ready to strike in early April, a security official said.

The source said the U.S. had already compiled a list of possible targets on Iranian territory and practiced the operation during recent exercises in the Persian Gulf.

"Russian intelligence has information that the U.S. Armed Forces stationed in the Persian Gulf have nearly completed preparations for a missile strike against Iranian territory," the source said.

American commanders will be ready to carry out the attack in early April, but it will be up to the country's political leadership to decide if and when to attack, the source said.

Official data says America's military presence in the region has reached the level of March 2003 when the U.S. invaded Iraq.

I'm almost 100% positive that the US military is planning an attack on Iran, but it won't be followed through. Military leadership is constantly preparing for worst case scenarios, it doesn't mean they will follow through on it. I'm sure as we speak that the Chinese military is practicing strategies to both defend against and attack the US, but it doesn't mean there is even a remote probability of it happening.

I've been fearful of this for a long time.
At one point the Bush speeches and media attention were priming us to support an attack on Iran.
But it backfired and 50% became hardened against all of our aggression and mismanagement and Bush's approval rating just got lower and lower.
His weekly speeches about Iran stopped and he gave up.

I am sure the military plans for it have been ready for many years now.
But I don't think Bush will follow through because it would be political suicide for himself and his party and i doubt he would even last the term.

I certainly hope that Iran is not the only country we have a war plan for, and that our military has trained for. That is the job of the military, to be ready in case the government decides it is needed. The military used to plan and train for campaigns against the Soviet Union. It did not mean we were going to invade.

Sometimes this stuff is just "leaked" strategically. The best questions to ask might be what Russia would stand to gain from this information being released right now.

Rationally speaking, one wouldn't expect an invasion of Iran.... Then again, this is the Bush administration.

Iran shouldn’t be a surprise, truth be known is Russia has possible targets on US, and we have possible targets on Russia, have for years, so it is not surprising that we would have contingence targets on Iran, probably have on China as well: North Korea is a given
