We, as in the rest of the world, have known that the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen have been perpetrating war crimes on the civilian population for some time, but because the Saudis are allied with the West and the Houthis are backed by Iran, nothing will happen.

Yemen conflict: 'Saudi-led coalition plane' hit funeral - BBC News

The Saudis have agreed to a British request for participation in an investigation into the wedding-party massacre. Who's going to bet the Saudi military isn't going to be entirely exonerated of any blame?

Anyone?

I do not believe this was a purposeful targeting.

I do not believe this was a purposeful targeting.

It doesn't read that way, anyway.

What you believe it to be is neither here nor there. Investigation or not, I don't believe we'll probably ever know for certain. In any case, it doesn't have to be deliberate to be a war crime. Culpable negligence is absolutely a crime.

And in many cases a way more egregious...

There are many things that per the letter of international law can be considered war crimes. Particularly where it concerns accidental infliction of civilian casualties I'm more or less convinced that this represents a hopeful ideal rather than a practical basis for punishment. I also think it ends up undermining the alleged writ of international law because these are by far the most frequent kinds of abuses which end up receiving complaints and also the least likely to ever result in investigation or punishment precisely because of their routine and incidental nature. It just makes these organizations and the entire idea of international law (as far as war crimes are concerned) seem impotent and therefore easy to ignore.

I think you might want to worry more about the attempt to hit an American ship with a rocket from behind the coast. If the forces are successful and sink the ship, I suspect the killing will increase.

You don't believe or you don't want to believe ?

If it were a Russian jet that had been accused of attacking would it be easier to believe it was a targeted attack ?

These are serious questions to ask ourselves

Any British input to an investigation will be based on damage limitation to Saudis image. It suits both parties and war is in no small part about money/arms sales.

It's a sad truth that the UNSC is made up of the biggest arms dealers in the world and set up , allegedly , to promote peace amongst nations. the conflict of interests should be obvious

We can boil this conflict down to another regional power play between a coalition led by Sunni Saudi Arabia, which supports Yemen's internationally-recognized government (as does the U.S.), and a client backed by Shiite Iran. At this point it's hard for me to generate much sympathy for the Iranian-allied Houthis.
