Pretty good documentary shown below which exposes the Saudi regime and the nightmare of living in that country. Picture North Korea, but with money oil.

Y'know, I've got no desire to live there - I really, truly don't - but my brother-in-law's fiance has lived there for about the past ten years, working as an RN in Riyadh. She and her daughter are happy. She doesn't plan on retiring there, of course, but she does like it there.

So be careful to not broad-brush the whole when it's not deserved. Again, don't get me wrong - there's a LOT of things that Saudi Arabia does that are wrong and some are flat-out evil - but for those who have the ability to adapt, who aren't afraid to abide by "when in Rome, do as Romans do", it's not nearly as bad as you seem to think.

Saudi Arabia also has vast regional differences. Life in Riyadh, and Nejd generally, is not the same as life in the Hejaz, nor is it the same as life in the Eastern Provinces.

Pretty good history of the country from the early 1900's on below.

Wouldn't your BiL be your sister's husband?

If you used your head, you'd know he was referring to his wife's brother.

it's a nation where women are property, don't sugar coat it.
