A US-made anti-tank missile system was used in an attack on an RT crew in Syria, a mounting body of evidence suggests. Journalists recognized the area, while experts confirmed that a booster found by the Syrian army matches the TOW seen in a rebel video.
A baldly titled video – ‘Jihadists Launch TOW at Journalists’ – was recently posted online and clearly shows a group of Syrian rebels firing a US-made anti-tank missile launcher. Upon reviewing the video, RT’s Roman Kosarev, who was among the group of Russian journalists which miraculously survived an attack from a similar weapon earlier this week, recognized the area and the chain of events which subsequently unfolded.
“The landscape is very very reminiscent of the one when we came under fire from militants just a few days ago, on November 23,” Kosarev said. “And actually you can see people running for cover at a distance and I'm pretty sure it must have been us. And that person running in the back must be me.”

Immediately after the attack on the Russian crew, the Syrian army swept the area and found a launch booster from the rocket that hit the media convoy. Experts agreed that it was “highly unlikely” that the booster, featuring distinctive markings, might belong to any other kind of weapon, but the system in question.
The BGM-71 TOW (Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided) is one of the most widely used anti-tank guided missiles, which has been produced in the US since the 1970s. The missile has an operational range of up to 4,200 meters and an armor penetration of between 600 and 800 millimeters depending on the model. Hundreds of the systems have fallen into the hands of various rebel factions over the years of the Syrian conflict.

Experts are saying there is enough evidence and eyewitness testimony to confirm that US backed Syrian "rebels" have used US provided TOW missile at journalists in Syria. I guess these rebels do not respect freedom of the press...

Actually that is NOT what your video stated. What it did show was:

1. A TOW anti-tank missile was used in the attack. That is true; as a 19D Cavalry Scout I qualified with that weapon (along with the Dragon), and this WAS a TOW.

2. The U.S. has admitted to supplying moderate rebels with these weapons. So? Nothing unusual about it. We supply weapons to insurgents we support, and our opponents (of whatever stripe) supply weapons to insurgents they support.

3. The weapon was used by a rebel unit.

However, no expert in your video stated that the weapon was used by a "U.S. backed rebel group." Weapons can be used by anyone who obtains them. IMO it is more likely a captured weapon used by an ISIS or allied rebel group.

Re: US anti-tank TOW missile used in attack on RT journalists in Syria

Lol, I don't care even a little bit.

State propaganda media outlet from a virtual dictatorship is attacked by rebels. I don't care.

the logo of the rebel video...

the logo of the rebel video...

Ever heard of "disinformation?" If you are saying that the logo denotes a U.S. backed group, what is your evidence other than that it WAS them?

Now I said it was my opinion the attack was from an ISIS group, but I admit the possibility it could be an American backed group. They are not fond of the Russians and probably would not discriminate between Russian journalists and Russian units. I'll wait for confirmation though.

So you question the videos authenticity?

So you question the videos authenticity?

???? You indicate that a logo appearing on the rebel provided video belongs to a U.S. backed rebel group. I must have missed something in the OP video because I don't recall anyone saying "such and so group, a U.S. backed organization claimed credit." So all I have is YOUR statement it is.

When I see a news report confirming your assertion I'll give it more credence.

Are you claiming we dont arm the free syrian army? The 1st Coastal Division?

Re: US anti-tank TOW missile used in attack on RT journalists in Syria

So the 1st Coastal Division logo is fraudulently placed?

For the third and final time, I don't know. I will await confirmation. CLEAR?

That does not change the fact your OP statement was not sustained by the video you provided.

I feel so much better knowing that in CA's opinion, it wasn't a US backed rebel group.

But it is OK when a Russian is supplied AA missile used by Russian backed separatists is used to take down a civilian airliner.

What was not sustained? And the evidence?

The intent of that post is lost in the illiteracy.

Re: US anti-tank TOW missile used in attack on RT journalists in Syria

Lol, I don't care even a little bit.

You had to have cared to read the post and respond.

You cannot comment on anything without caring about that thing at least a 'little bit'. Not possible.

Re: US anti-tank TOW missile used in attack on RT journalists in Syria

Annnd... Why should I care about this?

Maybe it was a case of mistaken identity, maybe it was stolen from a group the US had supplied at one point, maybe these particular rebels were just asshats.

What's the big deal?

Re: US anti-tank TOW missile used in attack on RT journalists in Syria

The irony meter explodes when Russia complains that insurgents are using American weapons against them.

Re: US anti-tank TOW missile used in attack on RT journalists in Syria

Completely figures that you would dismiss US backed militants using missiles on civilians, sense they are Russian.
