Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said Tuesday that the U.S. will begin "direct action on the ground" against ISIS forces in Iraq and Syria, aiming to intensify pressure on the militants as progress against them remains elusive.

"We won't hold back from supporting capable partners in opportunistic attacks against ISIL, or conducting such missions directly whether by strikes from the air or direct action on the ground," Carter said in testimony before the Senate Armed Services committee, using an alternative name for the militant group.

Outstanding and way overdue!

obozo has seen the light.....finally!

Oh, no! It's Vietnam all over again, with millions of boots on the ground and hundreds of thousands killed! What has ISIS ever done to us? What it this atavistic, jingoistic urge Amurikkkans have to kill folks for the crime of not being bright white and xtian? When will they ever learn? Arms are for hugging! Where have all the flowers gone? If I had a hammer, I'd hammer out love between the brothers and the sisters, aw-all over this land . . .

The only difference between the war against ISIS and the Vietcong is the United States actually wanted to destroy the Vietcong but were unable to because of its tactics. ISIS on the other hand are a bunch of scum bags running around in an open desert environment.

I suspect the members of ISIS are getting a very unpleasant lesson in what happens to armed forces on the ground, in open country, when their enemies control the air. If they ever try to concentrate enough to mount any serious offensive, right away they become nothing but a target for bombs and missiles. I imagine there's also not much they could do about artillery raining six-inch shells right on them from ten or fifteen miles away, except run for their lives.

Excellent1 Brought a tear to my eye and reminded me of days gone by.

Should be easy peasy if obozo gets out of the way and the Pentagon gets serious. It might be happening. obama and all his advisers....are obstructionists and Tinker Bell dweebs!

Pentagon: 'We're in combat' in Iraq

"We're in combat," Army Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman, told reporters Wednesday. "I mean, of course, this is a combat zone. There's a war going on in Iraq, if folks haven't noticed. And we're here and it's all around us."

Defense Secretary Ashton Carter also acknowledged later Wednesday that "there are American troops in combat every day" in Iraq, but he hedged his statement by saying that the overall U.S. role in Iraq is not to carry out a combat mission. Rather, he said, the U.S. mission to train and support local forces that does involve a combat aspect.
