Just when you think that Barack Obama cannot possibly top his own embarrassing stupidities and stunning naivety, he surprises you and comes out with something like this: http://www.cnbc.com/2015/10/03/obama-warns-russias-putin-of-quagmire-in-syria.html

The almost indescribable ironic paradox of Barack Obama, who has cemented the United States into the Afghanistan quagmire until at least the year 2024, lecturing and 'warning' Vladimir Putin against getting into a quagmire in Syria is almost beyond comprehension. Oh, did you miss Obama's little "midnight visit" to Karzai in May of 2012? Read on:

Obama's 'Midnight' Deal Will Stretch Afghan War to 2024 | Common Dreams | Breaking News & Views for the Progressive Community

Thanks to Obama's inept bungling of the entire combination of problems throughout the Middle East since the day he stumbled through the Oath of Office in 2009, now we've got horrible, unresolved situations in Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, and Egypt. We've got a horrible ongoing, (*)(*)(*)(*)ed-up mess in Afghanistan, and, we've alienated the only truly dependable ally we've had in that entire part of the world -- Israel.

But now, our wonderous "President Red-Line" has decided to make his own floundering, stupid flip-flopping mess look even worse by giving Vladimir Putin advice about what to do, and not do in Syria?! I've heard from friends of mine in Europe for over six years that every time Vladimir Putin hears Obama's name mentioned in a discussion that he almost doubles over in laughter. With the passing of every day under the Obama regime, it gets easier and easier to understand why that might be...

Pretty much as predicted even before the 2008 election was close to ending.

Romney's warning about Russia being the major international opponent and threat don't sound too far off anymore, do they?

Do you think the scheme is to trap Putin/Russia into an Afghanistan type quagmire? That's what will be suggested in the diplomatic circles, to increase the drain on the Russian economy like the sanctions. The reality is that the Caliphate in its' present configuration is a threat to Russia. If Putin follows through as in Chechnya, ISIS better buy a better jock strap, don't ya' know?

What a heaping pile of CON crap!

First it was the BushII's appointed Chief Justice who stumbled through the Oath of Office so miss me with that petty swipe. BushII 'cemented' us in Afghanistan by diverting focus from those who gave safe haven to the terrorists of 9/11 and dropped us into the Iraqi quagmire. Now a war weary USofA wants no part of fighting 'over there'. It is thanks to a bungling of the NeoCONs, we now have a hot mess with Iran, Iraq, Syria and the Roosians coming.

Israel isn't alienated, just having a poutage over not driving our nation's foreign policy. Bet your CON buttocks Israel will tuck in tight if any real threat comes their way...

So who are your 'friends in Europe' that see Putin so often?

Sounds like a bunch of CON fantasy.... :peace

Its amusing to see libos who still have their heads shoved squarely up Obama's 6 even after all his incompetence and ineptitude as Commander-in-Chief.

The world is a less violent and safer place my a**. :lamo

Re: Obama has the gall to tell Putin not to get into a "quagmire" in Syria!

this "quagmire" is an Obama meme, and deserves no credence. Russia is using their proxies and allies as "boots"

(hypothetical)
If Syria were to become Sunni led tomorrow, and kicked Iran out Putin's worse move would be to pack up and go home.
There is no possibility of a "Russian quagmire"

There is only the possibility of maintaining assad or not, and making yet more Russian inroads to the ME. Or not.

Quagmire was Afghanistan and Vietnam -Syria is a completely different animal .

Oh, it's a small world today, and therefore not unreasonable that one might have friends and business associates in foreign countries. After all, it is 2015 and everything....

Well, obviously you feel that Mr Putin is about to immerse himself and Russia in the spectre of Obama's big "quagmire" horror story. Well, playing devil's advocate for a moment -- isn't that, in theory, good for Obama? If Putin sinks in the quicksand of the Middle East up to his earlobes, doesn't that make Obama look like a wise sage? If I were a hyperlib, I'd love the prospect of something like that! Anything that helps people forget what an abjectly stupid, blundering ass Obama made of himself with the "Red Line" episode would be salve for the wounds borne by any Obama-lover.

Could you please clarify? As an example, I've understood that it is permissible to say that Obama is an abject moron, but that we should not call other posters names like that. I certainly agree with that maxim, but just want to be sure that's what you mean....

During these opening years of the 21st Century there is a LOT to criticize in both presidents we've been saddled with, and with the behaviors and actions of both major political parties. If we do indeed "debate politics" in this forum, surely it is permissible to criticize prominent people involved in today's, uh, challenging set of situations.

It can be a useful and helpful thing to know what 'Martial Law' entails.

I'll try to put this behind me, along with some very distinct unpleasantness I've encountered as a result of opening this thread.

Meanwhile, back on topic, evidently more sanctions against Russia are under consideration: Congress Can Respond to Putin With More Sanctions - WSJ

Europeans, especially the Germans, have had a gut-full of this childish, quid-pro-quo nonsense. The European economy is already in trouble and winter's coming on. It will be interesting to see if the central bankers (the real antagonists in this little schauspiel) are going to "up the ante" in this dangerous situation they caused over Ukraine over this newer mess in Syria.

If we are still running Ohio-class boats in a picket line off the northern coast of Russia, I'd suggest that we keep them at full readiness. Putin won't sit still like that frog in the pot of heating water and be slowly killed without fighting back. Hint: Russia has more nuclear weapons than any other country on earth....
