Russia to Start Bombing in Syria ASAP......[W:84]

Re: Russia to Start Bombing in Syria ASAP......

Thats including the christian, leftist and alawite elementes? And indeed those who had been fighting Al Nusra since the begining of the conflict?

I thought you were referring to the Al Assad government. My bad.

Re: Russia to Start Bombing in Syria ASAP......

I think they ignored the history of Iraq when deciding to invade, but that's another story. In the '30s - '50s the Brits were in Iraq:

I don't recall hearing about the Russians being there, though.

Heya DH. :2wave: Yep you are Right. The Brits.....Look up how Reagan's ME policy helped win him the cold war. Its a good read. It will explain what happened to the Russians and why they left with tails tucked between their legs.

Re: Russia to Start Bombing in Syria ASAP......

So Russia goes to its air bases and navy bases in Syria..... Ummm.... Ok....

What is that suppose to mean TDS. :2wave: Yeah they would secure their airbase and naval base. SOP.

But what does that have to do with them fighting side by side with Hezbollah? Or with the Iranians.

Re: Russia to Start Bombing in Syria ASAP......

ya. I deleted that part..I swear if I don't follow this closely day by day I have a tendency to get confused..so who are "the rebels"?
( in yellow around Aleppo, and a bit of Homs) That can't be Free Syrian Army types..

Free Syrian Army, Islamic Front, People's Defence Units. That's who is fighting around Aleppo. Also Al Nusra.

I doubt very strongly that the U.S. knows just what each named group involved in the fighting is made up of from week to week, or what every member of a particular group thinks about jihad. If there is some stable, coherent group this administration considers the good guys, I wonder what that view is based on. The Russian view seems to be that the enemy in Syria is anyone who is taking up arms against the Assad regime.

Re: Russia to Start Bombing in Syria ASAP......

I seriously doubt this as your first article cites source one article, say that "The video footage claimed to show troops and a Russian armoured vehicle fighting Syrian rebels alongside President Bashar al-Assad’s troops in Latakia." Both say its a video, but neither show us the full video, only showing stills, your first article also cites an Al Nusra Twitter, which brings up all kinds of issues regarding reliability as it would be in their interests to lie. In addition to this, I went on the Syrian news website and the only thing I can find with regards to Russian soldiers is this. (Bogdanov: Presence of Russian experts in Syria to train soldiers to use military technologies | Syrian Arab News Agency) The Telegraph also cites an 'unnamed' FSA soldier, which once again raises the same issue as citing Al Nusra.

Edit: We also need to be concerned about media manipulation and cover ups as it has happened many times before. (BBC removes Syrian opposition war crime video - INTERNATIONAL) (BBC Scrubs Video Of US Backed Syria Rebels Committing War Crimes | Global Research - Centre for Research on Globalization)

;)

Just a few days after a warning from John Kerry, Russian troops have engaged in fighting in Syria, according to anonymous sources. The troops are supporting long-time Russian ally Bashar al-Assad, all while American allies continue to support rebel forces.

According to two unnamed sources cited by Reuters, Russian troops are now engaged in combat operations alongside Syrian government forces. As one source put it, “the Russians are no longer just advisors.”

thanks very much. I'll look at the coalitions again. kurds are there too huh? I remember back when this all started
there were al-Nusra and assorted Islamist, as well as FSA were the main players.

Islamic Front seems to have gloomed up all the Islamists, except al-Nusra, and I think it's because al-Nusra will fight along with them ,
but since it's a group specific to Syria maintains its' own structures...anyways..I'm running with that whether 100% correct or not.

Heya ML. :2wave: We have to go back to the beginning then. Check out this thread. Post 12 and 13 go together. From Post 15 on it gives the names of all the Rebels and what they are about for the next couple pages. Here is a little bit from post 13. Its relevant due to that view we (the US) were going by.

Although led by an army defector, Gen. Salim Idris, the council has taken in the leaders of many overtly Islamist battalions. One called the Syrian Liberation Front has been integrated nearly wholesale into the council; many of its members coordinate closely with the Syrian Islamic Front, a group that includes the extremist Ahrar al-Sham, according to a recent report by Ms. O’Bagy, of the Institute for the Study of War.

In the past, United States officials saw the Islamist groups’ abundant resources as the main draw for recruits, said Steven Heydemann, a senior adviser at the United States Institute of Peace, which works with the State Department.

The strategy is based on the current assessment that popular appeal of these groups is transactional, not ideological, and that opportunities exist to peel people away by providing alternative support and resources,” he said. Mr. Heydemann acknowledged, however, that the current momentum toward radicalism could be hard to reverse......snip~

Re: Russia to Start Bombing in Syria ASAP......

I promise you that pacificism has not gripped Obama as he has been actively aiding and arming the rebels for quite some time, in concert with our European and Gulf allies. The main goal which it has always been, is to overthrow the Assad government and essentially create a situation like Libya.
that has to be sarcasm? lol. why on god's green earth would anyone want to create another post-Qadaffi Libya?

Yep AT, the Kurds are/were listed as Rebels to.

the Kurdish Democratic Alliance
the Committees of Civil Society
the Kurdish Democratic Front.....snip~

Assad, the Russians, Iranians, and Hezbollah.....will be out hunting for those named. This is who they need to kill to put some real dents in the Saud, Qatar, and Sunni, Revolt.

Opposition groups in Syria took a new turn in 2011 during the Syrian civil war as they united to form the Syrian National Council (SNC), which has received significant international support and recognition as a partner for dialogue. The Syrian National Council has been recognised or supported in some capacity by at least 17 member states of the United Nations, with three of those (France, United Kingdom and the United States) being permanent members of the Security Council.

A new opposition umbrella group — the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces — was formed in November 2012 and has gained recognition as the "legitimate representative of the Syrian people" by the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (CCASG) and as a "representative of aspirations of Syrian people" by the Arab League.

The National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces is a coalition of opposition groups in the Syrian civil war. It formed on 11 November 2012 at a conference of opposition groups held in Doha, Qatar. It includes organisations such as the SNC. Islamic preacher Moaz al-Khatib serves as the president of the coalition, Riad Seif and Suheir Atassi were elected vice presidents. Mustafa Sabbagh is the coalition's secretary-general......snip~

Naturally, they are Hiding in Turkey where Idris and his former mentor were hiding and conducting raids over Turkeys border. Of course with help from Erdogan. Then the other place is in Qatar.

Also listed is the one and only Muslim brotherhood. You know, the real culprit behind all Sunni revolutions. The ones that said they took a vow of Peace. Which as you can see. Western man......bought hook, line, and sinker.

Then it got worse with the Demos sucking MB windage and rubbing elbows. Hence, all that BS over backing Morsi in Egypt and then the Peep giving Morsi an Invite to the WH.

I couldn't agreemore about the sanctions Obama imposed on Egypt post-Morsi and for what?? Congress wasn't even asking for them
That was letting the Russian camel's nose into the ME tent. Syria of course is different,
but the Russian influence in the whole of the ME grew with that blunder

No it is not sarcasm. The US wants to create another post-Gaddafi Libya as it would harm Iran, a major ally of Syria. By taking out Syria you pretty much take out Iran's only regional friend.

Why'd you underline cited by Reuters? This still does nothing to actually combat what I've said. Really it only confirms it.

Interesting about the tank landing ships, plural. That suggests the buildup of forces will include more than the nine tanks reported. The T-90 apparently is not so easy to kill, even with the best anti-tank missiles. I imagine several dozen of them, split up into several units with infantry and close air support, would make it almost impossible for any of the groups fighting against the Syrian government to hold their ground.

When I read earlier this year that the heavy armor brigade of the Fourth Infantry Div. was being sent from Fort Carson to Kuwait, I wondered if it might be used with local infantry here or there in Iraq in some sort of combined force. That hasn't happened, but it will be interesting to see if it happens now in Syria. Armor and artillery pose a problem light forces without air power have no answer to.

Well that's not so much for you Mr I.....that would be more for the those of the Liberal and Prog blend. You know they tend to miss the little details when it comes to sources.

Lebanon Officials reported the same. But they didn't want to give names either.

Moreover any Assad tech that was being manned by Russian Military advisors that came under attack in Homs, or the Russians Naval Port. Also fought, despite it being defensive in nature.

OK. I also just got confirmation from a personal source that Russian troops are fighting in Syria. Thanks for the info, I'm always just skeptical of sources and how government likes to plant things in the media and what not.

What I was wondering about......was how many ships did the Russians have there already from last year, When Lavrov said they would be sending 5 missile ships to participate in Exercises.

I never did see anything about those that were sent there in 2014 ever leaving.

Umm... OK, if you say so. I'd been led to believe that the Soviet Union fell from its own economic inefficiency, but please, tell us how it was really Reagan's Mid East policies.

Ok I follow that much..I don't see how it relates to Libya-a failed terrorist state thanks to the US/NATO,
(and so called "Friends of Libya) and Iran has Hezbollah..but a Sunni Syria would be a big loss -agreed

Yes, Russia's economic problems did play a part. But what helped to contribute and to magnify that problem.

Well I did have to get it from somewhere. Its not like one fine rainy day I said. Oh.....look Reagans ME Policy is how he won the cold war. I take it you didn't want to look it up or see if there was something on it, huh?

How Reagan’s Mideast Policy Won the Cold War.....

Ronald Reagan’s centenary coincides with the unraveling of Ronald Reagan’s Middle East. The president born February 6, 1911, is most associated with the dramatic end of the Cold War in Europe. But you can make a powerful case that the Cold War was won — not in Europe — but in the Middle East.

Four events were decisive. 1. The Reagan administration cemented Egypt, the largest and most important Arab country, into the U.S. alliance system. 2. Reagan oversaw the weakening of the Soviet’s strongest Arab ally, Iraq. Banished from Egypt, the Soviets developed a relationship with the second strongest Arab state, Iraq. On June 7, 1981, Israeli jets smashed the Iraqi nuclear reactor at Osirak. The Reagan administration joined the UN condemnation of Israel. Yet the U.S. benefited enormously from the act it condemned.

Lacking nuclear weapons, on the defensive in the war it had launched against Iran in September 1980, Iraq was forced into greater economic dependence on the Gulf Arab states aligned with the U.S. — another blow to Soviet influence. 3. Middle East events forced the Soviet Union toward an (ultimately doomed) reconstruction of its economy. 4. Then the final shove: In 1985, the Reagan administration persuaded Saudi Arabia to increase oil production.....snip~

How Reagan?s Mideast Policy Won the Cold War

Now you can help TheDemSocialist out with the explanation. As you can see.....Oh wait it was a bunch of other points that TheDemSocialist just couldn't comprehend with the alleged smart powers he says he has.

It relates to Libya in the sense that the US and its allies want to create another Libya situation, a chaotic place with non stop violence, in Syria.

Frum Forum???

Reagan would have been 100 in 2011, and that means... that means.... somehow I don't see what that means.

Reagan made Egypt into a US ally??

To achieve this goal, Sadat ventured to enhance U.S.-Egyptian relations to foster a peace process with Israel. After a seven-year hiatus, both countries reestablished normal diplomatic relations on February 28, 1974. In moving toward the U.S. in foreign policy, Sadat worked with President Richard Nixon to expel 20,000 Soviet technicians and soldiers and reopen the Suez Canal. Sadat opened negotiations with Israel, resulting most notably in the Camp David Accords brokered by President Jimmy Carter and made peace with Israel in a historic peace treaty in 1979.

That seems to predate the Reagan administration. source

The Reagan administration joined the UN condemnation of Israel.

and got away with condemning Israel?

Reagan convinced Saudi Arabia to increase oil production? Just by the force of his charisma, or what?

I think your blogger is making a lot of bricks with very few straws.
