BEIRUT: Syrian President Bashar Assad said U.S-led airstrikes in Syria have made no difference on the ground and described himself as a captain trying to save his ship, in comments to a French magazine and carried by the presidency's Twitter feed Wednesday.
Coalition air forces led by the United States began bombing ISIS militants and other hardline factions in Syria in September. Asked whether this campaign had been helpful to him, Assad, whose forces have fought the same groups, told Paris Match: "You can't end terrorism with aerial strikes."

"Troops on the ground that know the land and can react are essential. That is why there haven't been any tangible results in the two months of strikes led by the coalition," he added, according to extracts of the interview published on Paris Match's website in English.
"It isn't true that the strikes are helpful. They would of course have helped had they been serious and efficient. We are running the ground battles against Daesh, and we have noticed no change, especially with Turkey providing direct support to these regions."
"Daesh" is the Arabic acronym for ISIS. Damascus has regularly accused Turkey of supporting Islamist insurgent groups like ISIS in Syria. Ankara denies this.

Assad saying that the airstrikes have done little. He claims the ground campaign is what is going to win it, and he is gonna stay in power through it all. I do believe the airstrikes have been effective in some cases, but its gonna be a mixed campaign that is going to beat ISIS. I also think the "moderate rebels" need to give up and side with Assad if they are continue to keep fighting. Beating ISIS will be a military campaign, but the political campaign needs to come from Assad and the "moderate rebels".

Heya TDS. :2wave: Assad is another one that says Turkey is allowing ISIS to operate....and another that says it will take boots on the ground.

I doubt he will be for any Coalition troops on the ground in Syria that are not in Alliance with him. Do you think he would allow Iran to put boots on the ground in Syria?

He could ask the Russians for support to. As I here it Putin is entertaining thoughts on doing some damage to ISIS too.

Kerry was meeting with 60 Nations over ISIS today. Calling them ISIL still, despite most of those Nations going with the Islamic State or ISIS.

Iranian boots are already on the ground ;)

Some reports state that up to several thousands Quds forces are also actively fighting ISIS in Syria.

They have also announced they are not backing down their support to Assad

Well I knew Hezbollah had people in Syria.....if Iran has troops on the Ground in Syria. The Syrian Rebels backed by the MB, Saud and Qatar.....are finished. Which means there is no reason for us to Arm them anymore. Nor train and or give them any additional monies.

Secretary Kerry's Remarks at the Counter-ISIL Meeting.....

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry presides over a meeting of more than 60 anti-ISIL coalition parties held on December 3, 2014, at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium

This is the first ministerial-level meeting of the anti-ISIL coalition, and we’re very, very grateful for everybody finding the time to be here. Many have traveled some significant distance to be here. Frankly, this impressive turnout reflects a shared determination to degrade and defeat ISIL, or to use the Arab term, Daesh. Two and a half months ago, this didn’t exist. This is the work of two and a half months, and it reflects an extraordinary rapid coalescing of effort. And frankly, it is important that everybody reflect on the fact that this is not cosmetic; this is a reflection of actions that have taken – have been taken by more than 62 countries and entities in order to respond to the challenge of Daesh.

In coming weeks, the coalition’s train, advise, and assist missions for Iraqi Security Forces will expand. Air strikes will continue as necessary. Step by step, Iraqis are mobilizing to reclaim the land that they have lost, and as the prime minister will attest, to develop the kind of broadly representative government they must have in order to succeed.

Meanwhile, there are many ways to contribute to the work of this coalition. The United States is constantly looking for the means to enhance the effectiveness of our actions, and I am confident that each of the coalition members represented here is going to do the same. This matters because the rise of Daesh was rapid, but it, in fact, has left those terrorists very exposed. What was relatively easy for them last summer has become more difficult. Daesh casualties are going up by the day. Muslim leaders across the globe are speaking out against the killers who have sought to hijack a whole faith, and Daesh’s repellent nature is becoming more evident with every ugly execution and every former recruit’s admission of being duped into believing Daesh is something that it most clearly is not.....snip~

Kerry must have forgotten where they have expanded to and who they have picked support up from.
