Well now.....here is Obama looking to make another shift in his Policy.....while he assures the Arab World he hasn't backed off his commitment to them. So now he wants to give the Rebel/Terrorists weapons all because he says they now have a better understanding of them?
shock.gif

Actually what we have here is Obama bowing to pressure by the Saud. Who is also representing the Sunni. Naturally the Saud will move the weapons. Can't have the Peace President doing that now. This is nuts.....all he will do is escalate things and make it worse. The Rebel/Terrorists have lost. There is no letting them hold ground. Run all those that are not Syrian.....out of Syria. Get over it Obama you lost on your call.....you can't go and make it back up now. You will increase the death toll twice the Amount. Leave it alone and stay the hell out of it.

The Obama administration is considering allowing shipments of new air defense systems to Syrian rebels, a U.S. official said Friday.

Allowing manpads to be delivered to Syrian rebels would mark a shift in strategy for the U.S., which until this point has limited its lethal assistance to small weapons and ammunition, as well as humanitarian aid. The U.S. has been grappling for ways to boost the rebels, who have lost ground in recent months, allowing Syrian President Bashar Assad to regain a tighter grip on the war-torn nation.

The actual manpad shipments could come from the Saudis, who have so far held off sending in the equipment because of U.S. opposition.

Among the reasons for Obama's shift in thinking is the greater understanding the U.S. now has about the composition of the Syrian rebels, the official said. However, the official added, the president continues to have concerns about escalating the fire power on the ground in Syria, which has been torn apart by more than three years of civil war.

The official wasn't authorized to discuss the internal deliberations by name and insisted on anonymity.....snip~

Always with.....I want to give you the scoop. But I don't want my name known. Screw that.....you wanted the info out. You're the snitch.....the name comes with it. That's how they need to start playing it.

So, now al Qaeda has an Air Force and Air Defense forces. Makes sense, since they've probably used up all the Stinger missiles on our troops that we gave them back when they were fighting the Soviets.

We just need to stay the hell out of that area at this point. If we had gotten involved before the terrorists took over most of the rebel groups, then I'd be all for taking down Assad. As it stands now, we have NO good options. Not even a lesser of two evils. Just evil. Let them fight it out, and we can decide how to deal with the winner, if we need to at all, after the dust settles.

Heya Beaudreaux. :2wave: Moreover Assad has the upperhand now. Obama turns around and does this. Putin will take the hand-cuffs off Assad and there will be even more atrocities taking place.

Furthermore this AP article validates the Interference by the Saud in Syria's Affairs. Which should be brought to the UN. Since the Saud are just as responsible as Assad and the Rebel/Terrorists for many of the dead inside Syria. Maybe the West should look into the interference by the Saud. Assad was elected wasn't he? Yet here is the Saud looking to topple Assad. Cause all this chaos and strife inside Syria. Yet wont go and take Assad on themselves.

Wouldn't you consider that being Cowardly? Especially since they want to continue the conflict even though all their Fielded Armies of Sunni have failed, and failed miserably.

As I've told you before, al Qaeda wouldn't exist nor would any of the other Islamist extremist groups (like the ones that are fighting in Syria) if it weren't for the Saud royal family paying their way, providing education to indoctrinate youth in the madrassas, providing weapons and so on.

And now? Turkey, a NATO country is sending fighters into Syria to fight against the terrorist groups.

What a majorly screwed up situation.

We blew any opportunity to have any reasonable influence in this conflict. We let it get to this point. That is unless we're just going to sit back and watch the entire world go to hell in front of our eyes, which seems to be our current stance on foreign policy; screw 'em, let them kill each other, and let other countries invade their neighbors and grab land and power regardless of how it effects the US.

We have no foreign policy. We have no voice in the world anymore. Nationalism and Isolationism is a recipe for a world war, just like it was in WWI and WWII. We're working our way toward WWIII, we're reducing our military and we're just sitting back wagging our finger at the bad guys saying "You shouldn't have done that. Shame on you."

I think Obama is trying to deflect with this BS over Putin and the Crimea. Since now Obama told Putin to pull his forces back from the Border of the Ukraine. WTF was that about. If they are Russian troops and are on Russian land On their Side of the Border. What can anybody say? How are we going to tell Putin to do whatever with his troops inside his own country?

Oh and I know you and I have talked before about the Saudi. I think you know I agree with it and think the Saud should be confronted openly about and if not embarrassed intentionally.

Greetings, Beaudreaux. :2wave:

What foreign policy? It's difficult to ascertain who is on whose side these days! I read that the Saud Royal family is upset with the US because of our efforts to befriend Iran, and our non-efforts in Syria. They have stated that "all options are on the table" with respect to changing the rules that currently have the US dollar serve as the only money that would be accepted by them as payment for their oil... the Petrodollar. Since the world runs on oil, this may explain why many countries are attempting to unseat the dollar by calling for a new "basket of currencies" backed by gold, that would replace the dollar as the world's reserve currency. IF that ever occurs, we would be in trouble! China and Russia already have many countries that accept their money for trading purposes. People around the world are watching this very closely!

Yep Lady P.....and the Saud refused a seat on the Security Council to show their displeasure with us. They were even openly stating there would be a change in our relationship.

Not only that, they were majorly upset with us over Egypt and backing Morsi and the MB. When we pulled our Military and Aid Package. Which we were only giving like 1.8billion. The Saud upped the money and so did all their Sunni followers. To cover Egypt and their economy.

Sanctions should be applied to the Saud for declaring a War on Assad and sending in others to go fight there. Now those Travel bans against them here with the US will work.

Apparently our agreement with them stated that we would fight their wars for them, so they feel we are not keeping our word, and they're angry. If they decide they don't have to keep their word either, it will hurt us more than them, since the world runs on oil. What a mess!

The Iranian regime is the largest supplier of terrorism.

That may be true Eco.....but are you trying to say that the Saudis aren't a large supplier of terrorism?

The Saudis aren't looking so swell on resources of Oil.....nor are their Sunni brethren. Soon they wont even have that to play or bargain with. Where do you think this leave them in the World Standings Lady P? Not much relevance after that comes to an end.

Is there any reason whatsoever for us.....to allow them to Interfere in other countries openly. All so they can get a Sunni Leader to take Syria? How about this idea. What about the majority of the Sunny that don't like it there.....then go and live with the Saudi. Since they prefer the Sauds Alleged and Self Lineage of what they think a King is.

Will what Obama is doing, or planning on doing, anger or placate the Saud King? That might be important in our future!

Well one thing, the Saud isn't going by is what the Rebel/Terroists said at the talks. So to do this now.....is going to lead to way more killing. As Assad is getting the Elections ready and has decided to run for his 7year term again.

Assad preparing to run for president despite war.....

Syrian President Bashar Assad is quietly preparing the ground to hold elections by early this summer to win another 7-year term, even as the Syrian conflict rampages into its fourth year with large parts of the country either in ruins or under opposition control and nearly a third of the population scattered by civil war.

Amid the destruction, which has left more than 140,000 dead, presidential elections may seem impossible. But Syrian officials insist they will be held on time.

The election is central to the Syrian government's depiction of the conflict on the international stage. At failed peace negotiations earlier this year in Geneva, Syrian officials categorically ruled out that Assad would step down in the face of the rebel uprising aimed at ousting him. Instead, they present the elections due at the end of Assad's term as the solution to the crisis: If the people choose Assad in the election, the fight should end; if Assad loses, then he will leave.....snip~

And of course there will be no voter fraud on either side!

I don't think the Christians will vote for any of the Sunni.....as we have seen the Rebels/Terrorists like to take their frustrations out on them after losing to Assad in a battle.

As a government, they are not. There's a big difference between private money and state funding. People in the US support terrorism, that does not mean the US does. The Iranian government openly funds Hamas and Hez among other groups. The Saudi government shares intel and operations against terrorism with the West.

There's really no comparison, they're practically opposites.

I thought they were just starting to find ties to the Saudi Government and or some of its officials.....as well as what Region some are in. Plus now they have record of them sponsoring terrorism inside Syria.

Is there a link for that?

The evidence o far has been the opposite.

Despite then rhetoric of war and rumors of war, I agree, there is no foreign policy; like every weak president, US foreign policy is a mere showpiece for the president's domestic polling. On that, one wonder's whether this isn't mere posturing after being humiliated, again, by Putin.

How much pressure from the Saud's?

I suspect that that pressure has been there for some time, but Obama is bowing to it now because he's been humiliated, again, by Putin. Remember he got shut down in the "red line" disaster. He's looking for a face saver, too stupid to realize it's over...meaning his administration. He needs to do what he did throughout his first term, go golfing and let the adults take over.

Obama has no plan. It's clear from his handling of domestic policy, he has no vision, no grand ideas, even his signature law, the ACA, is in ruin, amended 27 times after the fact. These are not the actions of a man who looks at consequences, and the Middle east has baffled him since Arab Spring.

He compounded that with his insane idea of Israel pulling back to it's 1967 borders. Then there was Benghazi; while Obamaland says it's old news, what do you think is says to the world when he clings to a ridiculous story to pretend his policies were working? Would you want to partner in potential war with that?

I have been saying for years that Obama's standing on the international scene went south after Arab spring and that FUBAR and then Libya, where he pissed off the Libyans, Saud, and the NATO partners who were fooled into a full bombing mission when it was, like this, supposed to be a defensive air corridor. All of these mistakes have perpetuated the image of the US being a Frankenstein monster blundering around the most sensitive hot spots on the planet.

You're just hating on the Sauds, as usual, MMC. Why do you hate Sunnis?

Don't look like it Eco....and because one points out what the Saud are doing has nothing to do with hate. But you can deflect all you like and not answer the question. Which I had set you up with.

It don't look like it took much F&L. :2wave: Nor does it change anything that's been said in here about the Saud. Despite any deliberate deflections that are spun to avoid the truth.

You don't just "point out" what the Saud are doing. You misrepresent that, intentionally, when you blur the line between state support of terrorism and private criminal enterprise. Further, you fail to recognize the cooperation between Saud and the West regarding terrorism. In this way, you are -knowingly- painting a picture opposite to the truth.

More on topic, you misrepresent the aid authorized by the US. As noted in your article, a greater understanding of who the good guys are is what has prompted this consideration. Only in completely ignoring that can you make the untrue claims you put forth, namely: that the Saudi government arms terrorists with US approval.

That cannot be construed as anything but an agenda.

Not quite.....That's why I didn't say the Saudi government arms terrorists with US Approval.....for one you can't deflect the fact that the rest of the Planet acknowledges that the Saud sponsors Terrorism. Most don't specify the blame. So thats a strawman argument as well as trying to intentionally spin it otherwise.

2. No I don't fail to notice the cooperation as you put it.....but then Unlike you. I don't just look at it from the Wests point of view. Furthermore I understand the Sectarian Divide they play with far.....more than you what you read and study upon. Which is why you fall for that BS that they have a better understanding of who the Rebels/Terrorists are. Which they may know more about them.....but that doesn't give them any better understanding.

Also No I didn't misrepresent the Aid. As the OP clearly states no final decision has been Made by Obama or any others. But that if it does get approved that Obama will escalate matters allowing the Saud to Run those Weapons into Syria.
