This photo apparently has been sweeping the web. The Sun tells us that the woman with the rifle is an IDF soldier obeying the rule that weapons be kept at hand “at all times if they are taken outside their military base.” I’m not sure that is actually the rule, but the photo brings back fond memories of my own experience in Israel, when my wife and I were always happy to see pairs of IDF soldiers making their way through crowds with rifles on their backs. Those were generally men, of course. Anyway, here is the picture:



Bar Refaeli has no doubt influenced how American men think of Israeli women, but this photo is a reminder that she is not, as John Lennon put it, the only one.

I just saw it in the newspaper today, well first of all there is no obligation to carry on weapons outside military bases (on leave) otherwise the whole beach would have been filled with them. Weapon should be kept behind two locks (house door and room door do the trick).

Regarding the photo, I find it hard to believe she carried her own rifle to the beach (just think about the hours you need to spend cleaning it afterwords baaah). My speculation is that a friend of hers who just went out on a leave put it on her so he\she could get into the water

Why did all of my female instructors looked like tanks ?!?

There was an article on IDF spokesman blog on the combatant unit that includes female infantry soldiers earlier this month:

What if the law applied to US soldiers in USA? There will be mayhem.

I prefer the thicker Israeli chicks that have the whole Mediterranean look going on.
