Have a look.

Then the next time you're pulled over, try to put yourself in the officer's place.

No way would I want to be a cop. So, I respect LEO, and I almost always give them the benefit of the doubt.

While I have a lot of problems with how the police forces are trained and operated as an institution, I respect the job itself and always try to remember that is a human behind the badge. Some of those humans shouldn't have badges but that is a different discussion.

When I am pulled over I do what I can to put the officer at ease. It makes for a more pleasant, and quick, stop. I roll my window down, turn off the car, and I get my insurance, license, registration, and CCW permit all in hand before the officer comes to my window. I always hand over my CCW permit immediately even in states where I am not required to. I find it usually buys a bit of good will.

I do have lines, though. I will never consent to having my car searched, but I would be respectful in denying the consent. You can exercise your rights without being a dick.

Oh, I also refrain from jumping out of trunks and attacking cops. That also buys some good will. ;)

The mother should face charges as well.. For harboring a fugitive all the way down to a ticket for someone riding in the trunk..

One of the first things they taught us was to check the trunk when approaching a vehicle. It's one of those things that's almost never a problem....almost.

Most people don't have all the information at and, and I have read that it is not a good idea to go rooting through your glove box as the officer might think you're looking for your gun.

Having said that, I do the same thing you do, and have never had an issue.

So...
