Arivaca (United States) (AFP) - To many, Donald Trump's pledge to build a wall along the US-Mexico border is unrealistic. But for Jim Chilton, it's the only way he'll get a good night's sleep.

The 77-year-old, a fifth-generation rancher on the Arizona border with Mexico, says he has grown weary of seeing drug smugglers -- rather than just cattle -- on his ranch and a wall is the answer to his troubles.

"I really admire Trump for having the insight and the knowledge to know what's wrong with the current border system," he said, as he surveyed the sprawling desert plains of his 75-square-mile ranch that stretches to the Mexican border.

Of course, we can't expect liberal know nothings around the US, to support the wall.....I mean it's not their land that is being trashed and they don't care anyway....right?

I say, put people to work who are homeless...if you can find any that actually want to work.

Build the Wall, do away with food stamps and welfare leeches.

Trump is proposing the most militarized border in the world outside of North and South Korea's, and that's not a touch disconcerting?

Are you that painfully ignorant that you think poverty will disappear without those dirty Messicans?

Nope...it's about time! NK's border wall is to keep their people prisoners, not keep SK out.

Has nothing to do with poverty, it's all about keeping those dirty messsicans out. :2razz:

The situation leaves us no choice.

Drugs and sex slaves cross the open border from mexico to America every day.

Laws and gentle persuasion do not impress scum like the gang bangers.

But the poor from mexico and central America are a problem too.

They ignore our immigration laws and come here by the millions which is bad for America.

A wall wont keep cartel members out when the American public loves to buy drugs from them.

A wall will make it more difficult for the drug smugglers to bring in their cargo

No it wont. 95% of drugs come through container ships and boats. There's also tunnels that go underneath any potential wall.

I doubt if the percentage of drugs at the border is only 5%.

But who knows?

Whatever the number it will not please the mexican drug smugglers to have that route closed along with the sex slaves and cheap labor.

Tunnels might be ok for small quanities of drugs but they (tunnels) cost a lot of money are are easy to detect

Those are direct quotes from US government personnel. If you want to deny facts because it doesnt fit your agenda thats up to you. The cartels have huge sums of money and they can do whatever they please. A wall sure as hell wont stop them.

As I said, who knows?

I dont want to quibble over percentages.

Whatever the amount coming over the border it should be stopped

Which a wall can do

You want to build a wall thats gonna cost the taxpayers billions to stop less than 5%? Thats just ridiculous. Mathematics exists for a reason- its not just numbers and percentages.

I dont know if its 5%

That is only an estimate.

But why bother to move any drugs across the border at all if container ships and submarines are better as you claim?

Besides the wall stops sex slave traffickers, terrorists and migrants also so it serves many useful purposes

Again youre wrong, the majority of illegals go through the country legally at border crossings, then they overstay their visas. A wall still isnt going to stop them either.

Stop illegal drugs by making them all legal. The profit disappears and the criminal element is no longer interested. You will know who the addicts are and can intervene to provide counseling. Of course, big Pharma would figth that, and the Big Banks laundering the drug money would fight that, and the Intelligence Agencies that are always tight with the major dealers would fight that, and the Drug Warrior weapons suppliers would fight that, and the Big Corporate Prison empire would fight that, but Joe Blow would never notice any difference.

Just wondering if Trump has all the answers on immigration then why is Trump doing so poorly in AZ a state with some of the most border problems and an easy landslide state for republicans

Why does Jack Reacher care about a border wall?

How much will it cost this rancher to build that wall so he can sleep easier? Would that not be rather expensive?

Save a ton of money on prisons and such.

Can you imagine if that money spent on the war on drugs was put into schools or our infrastructure? Or into the taxpayers pockets?

If he wants a wall he can build it himself. Perhaps "go fund me"?

Most reports estimate about 40% of illegals arrived on a visa and overstayed their welcome

That's still a big number

After we solve the foot traffic problem with the wall we can deal with those people next

Drugs are illegal because they are bad for society

And they are particularly bad for children and teenagers whose brains are still developing
