N.S.A. Contractor Arrested in Possible New Theft of Secrets

WASHINGTON — The F.B.I. secretly arrested a National Security Agency contractor in recent weeks and is investigating whether he stole and disclosed highly classified computer codes developed to hack into the networks of foreign governments, according to several senior law enforcement and intelligence officials.

The theft raises the embarrassing prospect that for the second time in three years an insider has managed to steal highly damaging secret information from the N.S.A. In 2013, Edward J. Snowden, who was also a contractor for the agency, took a vast trove of documents that were later passed to journalists, exposing N.S.A. surveillance programs in the United States and abroad.

Well, IF this guy did what is claimed and he was caught before leaking any info...then I guess he wasn't actually able to steal anything. :shrug:
 
This all sounds very innocuous to me. The government said they have no reason to believe he had any nefarious intent and that the data was old.

It seems like the guy was just taking his work home with him. He could just use the Hillary defense and say he didn't know any better.
 
He should have used a private server, could have bypassed all this mess.
 
All of your responses so far is exactly why this Hillary thing is so damaging.

The public (us) don't even view our "nation's secrets" getting out as a big deal anymore....

I mean... I can't blame us... we are taking the government's lead on this one....

The government doesn't have my sympathy. I'm not allowed to have ANY secrets, yet the government can send Chelsea Manning to life in prison for releasing government video of an Army AH-64 killing journalists? NONE of us can even have an email conversation with our girlfriends or mothers without it being recorded, but a whistleblower gets LIFE in prison for showing the world of U.S. government war crimes?

If I can't have any privacy, then I'm ok with the government having none. I hope the government criminals rot in prison for betraying all of us.

Edit: There's some GS-5 sitting in a dark room reading my post right now. I just wanna say, I'm not your enemy. Don't come kick my door, bro. You should be on MY side, though.
