Joe Arpaio, the self-proclaimed toughest sheriff in America who could face criminal charges for ignoring a judge's order to stop targeting Latinos in anti-immigration roundups, may now have a new foe as he seeks re-election - George Soros, the billionaire liberal hedge fund tycoon.

The Republican sheriff already was battered politically and support for him had been slipping when a group linked to Soros mounted an anti-Arpaio attack in an attempt to weaken his bid for a seventh straight term.

Frankly Arpaio is getting to old for the job anyways. But imo, I hope that whoever takes his place cracks down on illegal aliens just as much as Arpaio.

If that person has the same bigoted attitude towards Hispanics,he'll have the same problem that Arpaio has.

George Soros has little to do with it,but the massive demographic change in the USA that's going on right now will have a lot to do with it.

One doesn't have to be bigoted to crack down on illegal aliens. Of course part of the problem is that ANY crack down on illegal aliens will still be perceived as "targeting" Hispanics. Why? Because the illegal alien demographic is majority from Hispanic countries. And people will use that to cry "racism" or "bigot!" or any other meme that they possibly can.

I hope whoever it is doesn't cost his county the roughly $80 million that Arpaio cost Maricopa County in legal penalties and costs from lawsuits, settlements, judgements and legal fees. Also hope whoever it is isn't as corrupt.

Those would be two things that would be nice to have.

Anyone that goes after illegal aliens will cost their county that much, and who knows, prolly more, in law suits and such and will still be considered just as corrupt by those that support illegal immigration.

No, they won't. The lawsuits were all about illegal immigration.

And illegal immigration was only tangential to the deep corruption inherent to him and his department.

The man is filth, and I'm no longer surprised when people blindly brush off his long history of corruption with the rationalization that going after illegals is somehow, magically, more important.

That POS Arpaio has cost us (I live in Maricopa county, and I vote) over $150 million in lawsuits..including wrongful death. Arpaio belongs in prison for the rest of his miserable life.

He is in trouble. Penzone is a good guy, not a sleazy criminal like Arpaio. And the money from Soros? Well, if the Koch brothers can do it, so can Soros, but Soros is correct. Time for Arpaio to pay for his crimes.

The only unfortunate thing is that if he is criminally convicted to actual time, it won't be wearing pink in his own tent city jail; federal charges mean it'll be club fed for that fat sack of crap.

He costs that much because of wrongful death in his jails. You really need to look things up. Scott Norberg, Charles Agster, Felix Martinez Torres Jr., and so many more. You need to research more, it will change your mind.

The only reason that corrupt old fossil is still running is, once he is out of power and can't retaliate, there will be an avalanche of skeletons flowing from his closet.

Trust me, this guy is so corrupt he should spend his next two lives in prison.

Oh, yeah. I've kept up w/his history for years (as far back as his fantasy land stories about his deeds with the DEA out of the country).

The man is a living, breathing 15lbs serving of nugget-laden ass effluvia in a thimble.

Those were not the only things that has cost Maricopa County so much money over the years. All the lawsuits regarding profiling have also been in the mix. And will continue to be in the mix for any cop that goes after illegal aliens.

Yep, but too many people have died in Arpaio's jails. And too many lawsuits lost because of his conduct. He needs to lose, and be thrown in prison for the rest of his miserable life. He is pure scum. Only reason he pretended to be anti immigration is because he knew it was a dog whistle to rile up the rabble. He used to not give a whit about illegals...till it became a faux issue he could exploit.

Regardless. All that I've said in this thread is that I hope that whoever replaces him is just as tough on illegal aliens as Arpaio is. I never once advocated that the replacement do not treat people humanely. So your argument here is really not addressing what I said. It's just bitching about Arpaio.
