Homicide rates among black males went down by 18 percent in the 1940s and by 22 percent in the 1950s. It was in the 1960s, when the ideas of Chief Justice Warren and others triumphed, that this long decline in homicide rates among black males reversed and skyrocketed by 89 percent, wiping out all the progress of the previous 20 years.


The same reversal in the country at large saw murder rates by 1974 more than twice as high as in 1960. This was after the murder rate had been cut in half from where it had been in the 1930s."

Yes, especially the comparison between British and U.S. cities:

Timely, I was just yesterday reading Nixon saying that Blacks were far more agitated at the end of the 60's than they were at the beginning, after the DC ELITE had moves so substantially to address their grievances. He blamed black leaders, who he said would rather gain power off of the continuation of the problems than solve them, so they were stoking the anger and resentment.

Of course we must note that this is exactly what the DC ELITE have been doing for a long time now.

Things are different now though, there are few black leaders worth mentioning. Now the anger is self generating from the victim class, those who are supremely uneducated , unmotivated, without hope. Back when Rick James was singing about the Ghetto Life there were jobs somewhere that underclass blacks were good for, "the system" was periodically trying to reform so that there would be no left behinds. They went to church on Sunday. There was a shred of hope. No more. Our last big effort was to spread the underclass around the city so that we could get rid of "the projects" but that did not solve a thing because all the public schools suck not just the Ghetto schools, and all the jobs that ignorant Blacks were good for are gone now.

Dont tell me that the problems of the underclass have not been neglected, cause I look around and see a supreme effort to ignore the existence of these people that we have given up on, thrown away. It has arguably been earned by them, but dont deny what clearly is.

And, when you keep sticking your fingers in your ears, shutting your eyes, and saying, "No, no, no," you aren't likely to. The statistics that Mr. Sowell presents in this column and others are real and his experiences in black America when the Democrats were even more racist than they are now are real. The billions spent to solve the problems are real and blacks trapped in ghettos with non-performing schools and no jobs are real, too. But, if "no, no, no," makes you feel better, keep it up and stay off the streets after dark.

I never said I did not agree with Sowell. I meant facts do not matter. The progressive rhetoric drowns them out through personal attacks, cooked numbers, and just plain lying.

I am a huge fan of Sowell, but I have to wonder if stats were accurate in those decades.

I was a police officer from 1966 to 1996 and the stats don't surprise me. The driving factor for the rise in violent crime in those years was demographic. The baby boom hit the prime age for crime. Crime, especially violent crime, is a young man's game.

Not to idealogues.
They define themselves by their beliefs,rather than their achievements.
Facts may put cracks in their reality tunnels and they can't have that.
 
Thomas Sowell's words have no value to the liberal mindset, and even if they did, it would get them tossed out of the club.

The groupies need a sense of belonging within the ranks of the righteous wannabe's, and will protect that status regardless of common sense.

Well, the fact is the Democrats are still racist so a black man who isn't parroting the party line gets no respect from liberals.
