Two House committees sent a letter to the Department of Justice Monday laying out their case for why they believe Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton committed perjury during a hearing in Congress last year.

The letter to U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Channing Phillips from the Oversight and Government Reform and Judiciary committees provides four specific examples of times they believe Clinton lied under oath about her use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of State. The letter said Clinton made several false statements during her testimony to the House Select Committee on Benghazi on October 22, 2015.

Monday's letter follows one the committees sent to Phillips in July requesting the DOJ look into whether Clinton perjured herself. Assistant Attorney General Peter J. Kadzik responded in an August 2 letter saying that the department was reviewing the information and would "take appropriate action as necessary."

I'd like to read the specific quotes from Clinton and the corresponding direct quotes from Comey. And I may try to find those (if they are available, I don't know if the letter is). But the summary in the msn.com article doesn't convince me Clinton lied under oath, as there is a fairly easy explanation for all of them (including quotes from Comey). For example, in the piece of evidence, the "nothing mark classified", Clinton could easily argue the portion markings on the three pieces of e-mail simply were not seen or marked properly (and I believe some reports say a couple of them shouldn't have been marked classified). I'm not saying Clinton was being honest, I'm saying it's a viable argument in court. The second example, about the attorneys reviewing every e-mail, is not even a contradiction (reading and reviewing do not have to mean the same thing) nor could it be proven Clinton didn't know that every e-mail wasn't read.

Again, if I get more time, I may try to read the specific quotes (if available), but the four examples summarized in the article are going to be hard to prove, in the manner in which they were summarized.

And, just to be clear, I'm not saying Clinton is innocent. I'm saying Clinton is slippery enough to parse words in such a way to avoid lying, while not telling the whole truth.

I think they will nail her sooner of later. She maybe the best liar to ever enter politics but she is not perfect and sooner or later they will get her the same way they eventually took down Capone. It is always difficult when people in high and powerful places are constantly blocking the investigations. But sooner or later the facts will come out even if it is not in her or our lifetime.

I suspect Clinton cares much less about the long game than the immediate. The Clintons seem quite a bit like the Underwoods, from House of Cards.

I think they truly believe they are above the law. I also think the Bush's are in it with them. Bill and George H W have been arm and arm laughing at the American people for decades. No surprise they won't support Trump. These 2 families have destroyed any hope of a government For the People, By the People, Of the People.

Regardless of what she says about the emails, she set up the mechanisms for all this to take place. It's not just about competency...it deals specifically with the legality.

It's only perjury if she lied under oath.

I think they truly believe they are above the law.
I don't necessarily think they feel they are above the law. I do think they feel like the law is a hindrance to the power they desire. So I feel like they do everything they can to stay within the gray margins of the law, in their pursuit of power.
Regardless of what she says about the emails, she set up the mechanisms for all this to take place. It's not just about competency...it deals specifically with the legality.
It doesn't matter though, with regards to the legality. To prove perjury, you have to be able to prove she knowingly and intentionally lied under oath. You can say, "well, she should have known" or "it's obvious to me she knew" all you want. Unless you can provide direct proof she's lying, perjury is just going to be hard to get a conviction on. And, just for the summary provided, I don't see direct evidence which can be proven.

And I think Congress knows that. I don't think they really care if she goes to jail, they are just trying to hurt her political capital.

Not gonna happen.

Exactly. They know she will most likely slip through the hands of justice yet again. But they are doing the right thing in not giving up. Sooner or later she will make a mistake just like Capone but you must be there ready to capitalize on the situation. I think they need to keep the pressure on especially the Clinton Foundation which is clearly a slush fund. It is one thing for a businessman to have dealings with Russia. When the Secretary of State starts taking money from Russia I think everyone needs to take a real close look.

I think the Clinton's and the Bush's are the most corrupt political families since the Kennedy's.:thumbdown

Trump has her beaten hands down for lying.

I think you are grossly overestimating the altruism of the Republicans.

She claimed there was only 1 email server.
FBI: there were in fact multiple email servers.

She: Claimed that she didn't send or receive classified data.
FBI: There were 110 emails sent with classified data in them.

She: Claimed she didn't send any emails that were marked classified.
FBI there were at least 3 emails marked classified above top secret.

SHe: I turned over all Emails
FBI: There were thousands of emails that were not turned over
they had been removed or destroyed which is a crime under the government records act.

She: it was permitted by law.
FBI: since 2005 by the Inspector General that work email be done through government servers.

She: The emails were secured from hacking.
FBI: There is evidence that the server was hacked or could have been hacked.

all of was claimed in her congressional hearing. lying to a congressional hearing will earn you a perjury charge.

however the corrupt DOJ won't do a bloody thing about it.

the house should tell the DOJ to go screw themselves and appoint a special prosecutor themselves.
both on the orginal emails and on the perjury charges.

it is clear that the DOJ has no intent of prosecuting the Clintons for their law breaking.
we are not supposed to be a two tier justice system but the evidence is clear now.

Maybe.

The republicans might need to be careful throwing stones because they also live in glass houses.

They are at the end of the long game for now. President. Next up is Chelsea. I wonder?

Not hardly. They are not even in the same league. Hillary is one of the all time great. I put her up there with Adolf when it comes to ability to lie to the people.

Trump gets in trouble because he likes to joke around and could care less about being politically correct. He is getting crucified for it because the powers that run our government cannot turn him into a bought and paid for puppet. Big difference.

Anyone who believes that Trumps lies and insults are jokes are fools.

What is it with the Clinton's and their inability to speak the truth while under oath?

It's only perjury if she lied under oath.

I do believe that she was sworn and under oath in her testimony before the congressional committee.

Some glaring lies in there from you, bub.

And she's not going to be charged with perjury, so you might as well get it through your heads, cons.

Yeah... good luck with that House committees.

Although to be honest they win with their constituents. They'll continue the narrative she's above the law and if anything actually sticks, BONUS!
