"Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6"
They are just the poor, better to shoot first. We will never be held responsible..................

Opps.

If this guy had just backed off, or just never risked peoples lives for a useless DRUG BUST. We would all be better off. People SELF destruct with drugs, there is NO ONE to "protect".

Friendly fire? Can happen. Sad as it is.

They'll charge the drug dealer for the shooting.

Instead of trashing cops you could have linked to a more complete story on the incident but I guess that kind of thing just isn't in your nature.

New details in shooting of undercover APD officer | Albuquerque Journal

There seems to have been a tragic screw up. The cop that pulled the trigger apparently saw the cover guy pull a gun on the passenger in the back seat and reacted in defense of the passenger's life. If it HAD been a bad guy in the back seat the cop would have saved the other guy's life. Unfortunately, sometimes stuff happens and it appears that the cop never got word that there would be TWO undercover instead of one. The result was tragic for all involved and, frankly, a little compassion in such situations does more to understand and prevent such things in the future.

Sadly this is just the price that must sometimes be paid when trying to balance liberty with security. Mistakes are made. I'm sure the officer involved will regret this as long as he lives, but hopefully it won't prevent him from continuing on with his duties.

So yes, it happens; but despite the OP "Death Poster" it is not very frequent. It's also important to note that the U.S. had twice the population of the U.K. in 1900, three times the population in 1950, and more than four times the population in 2000. So the difference between "52 vs 369 over 115 years?"

You are not comparing equivalencies.

An Albuquerque police lieutenant who shot and seriously injured a fellow undercover officer early this year didn’t go to a pre-operation briefing on the drug bust and may not have known there were two undercover officers – instead of one – in the car when he opened fire, according to police reports released Tuesday.
He probably didn't attend the pre-operation briefing because he was stuffing his face at a donut shop.

Says someone who probably thinks Call of Duty is an accurate depiction of a firefight.....

**** happens. Friendly fire is always a concern. These people constantly put their lives on the line every day keeping people safe.

But no.....your going to **** talk the police. From the safety of your mom's basement.

Next time you get robbed, call a drug dealer to come help get your **** back.

Yes, for sure, but the cop haters, especially the ones who use illegal drugs, will trash the police anytime they can.

Cops never seem to display this much emotion when they're shooting non-cop innocent victims.

That's because they are friends and co-workers who they know very well.

If you were cutting down a tree in your yard and a large limb fell on and killed you neighbor....would you have the same emotion for the neighbor as you would if that limb killed your wife or child?

He probably didn't attend the pre-operation briefing because he was stuffing his face at a donut shop.

He did miss the pre-operation briefing and didn't have all the info. It was a year ago. I gathered that he was going to be fired over this and opted to retire.

Yep. We sure do see a lot of those on forums...don't we?

Well, I wouldn't expect them to. It is only human to react more strongly when the person is someone you know.

But while I don't think that particular comparison is fair, notice how they performed first aid? THAT is something you don't see much in the videos of cops shooting non-cops. And that is definitely wrong.

According to the story the shooting officer did not attend the pre-raid meeting and missed vital intelligence.

Never got word?

But yes. A job with guns and people who may shoot at you, accidents when they do happen, can be deadly. Having the public snicker at it is unfortunate.

That's because sometimes, in the real time videos, the police aren't exactly sure who the perps are and who the innocent bystanders are. Even thou you are supposed to render first aid immediately to even the perp...which I find insane...it doesn't always happen anyway.

And sometimes....they do the same intensity of first aid .........................for everyone.

Not good...because that is often wrong....once.......the innocent person is Identified ....and that can take several minutes. Too many people use a sound bite and a few seconds of video, to make rash judgements.
And too many people here and everywhere like to armchair quarterback the police and in reality, they don't know ****!

Yep, that's what I always told my cops on the range...take nothing for granted, always expect the unexpected and Murphy is sitting on your shoulder.

If it's a raid, for God's sake, prepare yourselves to the enth degree.

I saw a policeman have a nervous breakdown in NYC, because his resuscitation failed on a 3 year old girl.

It happens a lot more than people think and a lot more than the media is willing to cover. I've seen so much "bias" in media against cops, civilian gun owners, motorcycle riders and Conservatives....it's a damn travesty and very poor journalism.

Journalism these days is a joke, because most of them are liberal college educated, brainwashed dopes with an agenda....or are just too lazy to do a good job. Too many of them want to be a part of the story and will insert their own bias or exploitation, into what is going on, instead of just reporting what happened.
Brian Williams is a case in point. Dan Rather and Tom Brokaw...also.

Hardly.

Roofers and garbage men "put their lives on the line" far more frequently than police officers do.

Next time you get robbed, call a drug dealer to come help get your **** back.

Two words: Constitutional Carry.

That and the abolition of the completely useless War on Drugs (TM) would put 50% of police out of business, save us untold billions on wasted "law enforcement" expenses, and make our streets safer.

Only sheep believe that grown men actually need other grown men to "keep them safe".

I would much rather a cop handle a dangerous situation in my neighborhood than a regular civilian.

From what I read a big part of the problem was that the UC guy that got shot pulled his weapon on the back seat passenger. That presents an imminent threat that most cops will react to immediately. It looks like it was an all around weird situation and in such situations you can reasonably expect people to act based on the training they received. It should be automatic. In this case those training instincts kicked in and the result was tragic.

"Seems?"

It was a screw up all right, the shot cop is suing the city. They a point that the shooter was not at the pre-bust briefing.

But for $60 worth of speed?

Sorry,. I don't get that. All those resources to get one low level dealer. And now a cop is disabled and the force has lost some community support.

If they're going to put those kind of major resources into something it should be a lot higher up the food chain

My only comment is: Fudge the War on Drugs!

All these tactical resources and risk to the the community for a 60 dollar buy? Flinging lead through the air for this?

To the bolded:

You find rendering aid "insane"?

Why is that?

C'mon it's the NYPD. He had a nervous breakdown because there was a witness to the shooting, not because a child was dying. Heck in Georgia, just for the thrill of it, cops throw flash grenades into baby cribs.

This does seem to be a little bit (a lot) of work for a $60 buy.

There are a lot of moving parts in a bust like this and it's VERY unusual for the UC guy to pull out a weapon for EXACTLY the reasons we see in this incident. I'm REALLY not a big fan of this kind of takedown because it puts too many people in high risk situations.
