I know that I am just asking for this, but if he was previously deported - what do you propose as the solution to prevent these types of situations in the future?

....ya know, besides implementing some way to prevent illegal immigrants from being able to legally purchase a firearm in the United States.

how about they are not able to acquire any social benefits from any government, and anyone who would hire an illegal will be fined a heavy fine and if caught a second time, their business license taken away.

illegals are not like to come to the u.s. if they have no means of supporting themselves so that crimes like this can be committed.

True. Any viable immigration policy will require several pieces executed together. Step one MUST be sealing the border. Step 2 as stated, remove financial incentive. Step 3, criminalize illegal immigration and apply it to compound sentencing when other crimes are committed. Step 4, create a registry of guest workers and legal immigration applicants of all illegals currently in the country. Deportation simply isnt an option.

But as you said...that wont stop those already here and with criminal intent, any more so than a ridiculous attempt to tie this incident to gun control.

But making it harder to hire and increasing penalties for empoyer who hire illegal immigrants would make it more challenging for illegal immigrants to support themselves. Of course some illegal immigrant may be benefiting from a benefactor who seem to have unlimited funds so that's why we stop making it so that illegal immigrants can collect government benefits.

Yes but a criminal isn't collecting benefits or working. They most likely are supporting themselves hustling or drug dealing.

Anymore than you can't "stop" an American citizen from committing a mass murder, its probably much harder to stop an illegal. You can take away benefits and build a wall but if someone snaps, that's all it takes.

I don't believe sealing the border is even possible. It would be #2 and #3 (along with removing birthright citizenship) that would be effective. You/we have to remove the attraction. As long as the attraction is still there they will find a way. If there's no attraction, they won't even bother.

It is absolutely possible. It starts with letting the governments know we are actually serious about the law and that unlike the message that has been sent, we dont have an open border I dont think we need a wall. A fence will do with seismic sensors to detect tunneling and we can rotational base military personnel to patrol and monitor. There needs to be a very clear understanding...we LOVE immigration. LEGAL immigration. But I do agree completely that we have to remove the attraction.

Its ineffective because we do it ineffectively. And the reality is that it is needed precisely BECAUSE we have done such a poor job of it. Change minds. Change policy. It begins with securing the border. We have to solve the problem "from this point forward" but we need to deal with the damage caused by yesterday.

All the people and resources and walls and fences and night-vision crap and other technologies we're currently using all along our southern border... and what, specifically, are we missing regarding the physical aspect?

There are great big massive gaping holes where they arent maintained, are missing, and certainly deficits in the monitoring. Thats why I think they need a fence and not a wall. And about 20 yards of razor wire on each side of the fencing for good measure.

But if/when they ever call me for the solutions, I'll make sure to point out that you disagree with that part.
