[h=1]Dad Arrested for Taking Daughter’s Phone as Punishment[/h]
When Ronald Jackson found a text he thought was rude and inappropriate on his then-12-year-old daughter’s phone in September 2013, he took the cell away. But the child’s mother, Michelle Steppe, balked at his action — and she called the police.

A father can't confiscate a child's cell phone for making inappropriate texts? How bizarre has the law became?

As a teacher, I used to confiscate all sorts of things the kids brought to school, especially things that were capable of sending projectiles across a room, or simply distracting kids from their lessons. Lucky for me, I was never arrested for it.

Another "ex-wife" story. They do crap like that all the time.

Lol, in my house hold, taking the phone is one of the most effective punishments in the arsenal.

Better be careful. You could be arrested!

everyone was pig headed.

The dad should have been reasonable and given the phone up after a week or so.

The mother should have been reasonable about as number of things.

The daughter can't have a relationship with her dad anymore ... over a fricking phone? Anyone who can't get over something so trivial needs to not be so ****ing spoiled.

But no in my house, there are rules and the kids know if the rules are violated there are consequences. We don't mess around with that, the rules are there for a good reason.

Good for you.

And, if the couple in question were more reasonable, they'd likely still be a couple.

Children whose parents are at odds with each other quite often become expert manipulators of adults.

In this case the issue may have been that it wasn't the daughter's phone but the mother's (she paid for it and the phone plan she uses). The parents are separated.

Its stories like this that make me thankful that my ex-wife is pretty sane and really wants me to be a part of the kid's lives.

We need to start hitting our kids again in school. Buncha idiots now a day who think everything should be handed to them.

The mother was re-married and to a cop... sounds like ex-wife vindictive out to get the father bitch syndrome in effect...

It is a terrible thing and it sounds as if she really influenced the daughter too... or the whole family is just ****ed up ......

Some of these kids think their phone is a part of them... almost literally. I have tried to confiscate phones from some students who would rather be expelled from school over the incident then to just hand over the phone for the rest of class. We have to get the dean in and sometimes the deputy-principal because the kid causes such a disruption of defiance... it is appalling and a clear reflection of crappy parenting. My daughters have very clear understanding of the expectations with phones and only recently got one that is pre-dialed to only me and their mother. They don't get to carry it to school either. They are 11 and 12 and the rules will be pretty tight as they get older too.

Well, you will be handing them a fist so I don't see how your plan will be any different...

Belts > fists

Anyways the kids need to sense of authority. Revolutionary ideas don't get pushed as much in cultures that have physical discipline.

So, a little physical discipline would have stopped those upstart colonials from starting their own country. Good to know.

we need to start teaching kids, the art of compromise, it goes a long way toward making peace and life in general a happy experience

I swear some people are too miserable to live
