We keep seeing story after story, video after video, of bad cops. IMO, those are the exception and the greatest majority of cops are good people .

What I'd like to have, is a thread here to show stories or videos of Good Cops. I'll start with this one:

Morgantown was a snowy mess on Jan. 12, to the point where many West Virginia basketball fans were forced to walk to the Coliseum to see the team take down No. 1 Kansas. Among those who couldn't make it was the person scheduled to sing the Star-Spangled Banner that night prior to tipoff.

So Carlton Smith, working the game as a University Police Officer, answered the call. A former Mountaineer Idol, an American Idol contestant, and a WVU graduate, Smith stepped in to sing that night's National Anthem and set the tone for a special evening for the Old Gold and Blue.

The good cops aren't news worthy, and reporting on them doesn't make for ratings. But cops are the first to be called when something goes wrong. Don't forget to thank cops for being there when you need them.

It'll be a short thread. Roughly a year ago I posted a couple stories about good cops, and they each got, maybe, 5 replies. Not even the cop apologists came in to agree.

Kind of reminded me of the "If it bleeds, it leads.", media mindset. Regardless what people say, they want sensationalism and drama, not balance.

Bad cop... while grabbing for glory he was not performing his duty. What if somebody was hurt?

Look at the very end... he is getting ready to pull his gun because of that attack that sent the kid carrying the ball to the ground.

What if he injured a kid?

Bad cop... this one threatens to bring back up if the kids play tomorrow. BACK UP?!

He did:

And his backup paid the kids $100 each. You think threatening to bringing a pro baller who is also a cop makes him a bad cop? Or were you being sarcastic?

A few months ago Officer Umpleby was observed, without his noticing, purchasing shoes for a homeless person who had no shoes or money.

I believe most cops are good people, as any reasonable person should believe. But I do think some departments in some cities have a culture that breeds "bad cops" where otherwise good cops work in a system that promotes bad behavior and corruption. The Chicago PD is one case I can think of, the LAPD another.

I'm more than happy to recognize good cops when I see them, as there are so many of them and the public at large lately is not giving these guys enough credit even though they make up the vast majority of police officers. They have a tough job and are put under pressures and situations outside of my realm of comprehension. I can't imagine doing their job, which is why I don't.

Black student protesters for Black Lives Matter but also speaking out for good cops and speaking against the riots and violence in Baltimore.

A cop who has 0 complaints over the course of a long career:

Be sure to offer that tip to the President the next time you see him.

Watch until the end...

They tend to be more in local papers, though.

Bad cop stories are more newsworthy given the power we grant the police, so, they tend to make national media.
