There should be a "Lying Media" section....but I will have to settle for this one.

To hear the media tell it, America is in the grip of an unprecedented crime wave, an orgy of wanton murder in which heavily armed thugs randomly gun down innocent unarmed people, some of them teens, just for sport.

Except that these homicidal goons are wearing the blues and badges of American police departments.

It’s the narrative that’s given rise to the protest movement Black Lives Matter and to a growing public mistrust of the police in general. From Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., to the recent shooting of a middle-aged woman and a teen in Chicago, the body count seemingly keeps rising, exacerbating racial tensions and keeping the nation on edge. And each incident is breathlessly reported by a media determined to show that America remains deeply, irredeemably racist.

Problem is, it’s simply not true.

Explain the myth to the more than 1100 citizens killed by cops in the year just ending. A little too much macho military ego injected into our Nation's social babysitters to suit me. Ya' gotta' be so careful not to wave your pinkie in a threatening manner and cause a cop to fear for his life and unload a whole magazine to center mass. The "epedemic" is worse than reported and needs to be addressed on a National level. Good cops are invaluable and, in this day and age, too rare.

Problem is it simply isn't true- neither you nor the NY Post cite where 'the media' claims there is an epidemic, an unprecedented crime wave, or just for sport... :doh

Talk about standing FAAAR away from the truth...

What has become painfully apparent is due to increased use of cell phone videos, privately owned security cams, dash cams, body cams some LEO claims of fearing for their lives is highly questionable. It also exposes a trend for fellow Officers to buy into the lie and back a story video shows was untrue.

But I don't recall the MSM declaring an epidemic... :peace

Some people cling to their feelings of events despite the hard data and science that shows their feelings and belief systems to be flawed.

Not much I can do about irrational delusions.

It is an excellent little article.

Some people grasp onto ANYTHING that helps them maintain their delusions... generally little articles.

The fact that video evidence clearly shows police officers beating up defenceless people and not charged with assault is a disgrace. But how many numbers create epidemic proportions? The problem is the type of person recruited into the Police Force. Yes there exist many good officers but good officers are not a problem of concern. There are millions pf perfect airline flights, but the ones that crash become the issue of concern. The USA is up to its neck in two faced, corrupt politicians. They are bought and sold. So when you have this crap at the top its no surprise that the system falls apart. How ironic that Russia seems to hold the higher moral ground over USA ??

I don't think the numbers are unprecedented. They're just now being reported with any sense of seriousness. IOW, it's always been this bad, we just didn't know about it before because we weren't paying attention... or caring.

The problem is that we simply do not know. These numbers have never been accurately reported and continue as such. The best we can do is estimate based on investigative reporting by private individuals. So, has it always been this bad? Who knows.

I think a major part of the problem is the increased aggressiveness of police activity. There is a fairly well documented case suggesting that "elite" units and hand-outs from the military have changed the tactics and perspective of the average police officer. While we certainly have a difficult time comparing actual numbers in any accurate measure, we can definitively show that the average police department has become significantly more aggressive with special units and more "offensively" armed with military hardware.
