Unable to stop criminals, Texas cops now pull you over for "driving safely" ...

I have an issue being stopped when I did nothing wrong, having them waste my time and then "reward" me with crap. Starbucks is ****.

The outrage here is pure and utter garbage. I don't know why I even bother coming to anti cop utopia though. It doesn't matter if they do it right, libertarians would condemn cops for existing.

If the person is obeying the law perfectly, and the cop has no other reason to suspect wrong doing, why even bother taking more time and running the DL? Just give them the gift certificate. In a sense it IS a form a harassment. Painting a happy face on it doesn't change that fact.

I am a liberal conservative independent... and it is not bull****. It is cops stopping me for no just reason and then trying to make nice once they realize they stopped a law abiding citizen for literally no legal reason. If they just came up and said, "hello sir, you really did a great job letting that car merge, here is a coupon" without running my licsense, I would still be a little bugged perhaps at being stressed out over being pulled over and having them bother me... but not angry.

This begs the question: If you are pulled over, even for this, are you at that point officially detained? The articles do not say one way or another. I suspect that you are. If you are, then no, I don't think you can just drive away. And, how would you know if the officer refuses to answer questions regarding why he pulled you over until AFTER he has taken your DL and run it?
 
Thug cops are going to peer into your car. If they are crafty they will wand you with an alcohol detection device. Smart thing to do is keep your window up and ask if you are being detained. If so why? If nothing drive off.
 
I wonder if anybody appreciated the obvious, unveiled excuses to pull them over in order to look for evidence of crimes without cause. I remember when cops would do the same thing. On New Year's Eve.
 
I think those who blindly support cops no matter what have jumped the shark with this thread. It has gone from giving cops the benefit of the doubt to Forest Gump levels of naivete.
