The Dangers of Law Enforcement’s Use of Confidential Informants

this was on last week. forcing minor league weed sellers into snitches-a few got killed as a result. only reinforces what I have believed for 40+ years

the war on drugs is a disaster
I missed the broadcast. I think there's a link to it in the article, so I need to watch it.

That's for sure. In fact, with our government put War On anything, and it will be a disaster.

But this is partly due to the politicizing of the police. Politicians want better numbers, they're not looking for good police work, or even moral police work, they just want the numbers. Min/Maxing on numbers with no room for intelligent thought can often be a very bad thing.

Right, and this is a cash cow for LE, and LE is still a powerful lobbying force, so it perpetuates itself.

Welcome to American Politics, sadly. We have set up many self-sustaining loops. Just look at campaign contribution laws and how the public debates are structured.

Every once in awhile 60 Minutes gets one right.

Yes, this system of informants has been festering for decades at least. It is one of the many social pathologies brought by our foolish drug policy.

No surprise that the authorities want to continue the practice. Our criminal justice system is hopelessly corrupt.
