Agreed.

Here it takes $65 for the first 4 year permit and $50 every 4 years to renew. It's the second best deal to...no permit needed at all to carry concealed....which 6 states have now.

In Texas that NRA CHL course costs about $100 and also requires buying 50 rounds of ammo - that is in addition to the $140 (non-refundable) CHL application fee.

Nothing wrong with arming yourself for self defense but deciding to finally do so because of Islamic terrorism makes no mathematical sense. The threat to you before wasn't enough but the addition of this incredibly unlikely threat is? It is like saying you don't need health insurance but breaking down and buying it when you heard of a couple cases of ebola.

The courses here range from $35 to $100, depending on what is required by state law and the student. Most NRA courses are about $50.

Well, I can understand why you don't get it...............fuzzy math.

What you are missing is the dynamic here. Chances of a person being caught up in the middle of a San Berdoo scenario, is rare..............so far.

But all the stats go out the window, for those murdered or injured in one of these melees, when you become the victim.

13 killed at Ft. Hood.........33 wounded.............................by a muslim
14 killed in San Berdoo.....22 wounded..............................by muslims
03 killed in Boston............260 injured, some very badly.....by muslims

Then there was the Texas parade a few months ago, where a very alert and very brave cop, stopped the muslims cold! If they got by him, how much carnage could they have inflicted?

And in San Berdoo...a police chase with the muslim killers throwing bombs out the window of their SUV and shooting.....at police.

In Boston, an all day and into the night manhunt, with thousands of people locked in their homes in total fear....and powerless.........because they were unarmed!

The rarity goes away, when you personally become the victim...and I use the word "you", in a generic sense.

It's really quite simple folks.

If a person is attacked ...by anyone, the chances of the odds increasing in their favor....are better if they are armed, rather then unarmed. Simple as that.

I'm not talking for every scenario, the world is not perfect.

But the one thing that I have taught, to all my students, over the last 40 years, is that their # 1 defense, in a life or death situation, is most likely themselves. And waiting for the police to arrive, can be a death sentence.

It is never more morally correct to be a victim, than to fight.....Never!

Here in my county it about $360 for your first 2 years and about 150 for every two years after that, but everything is more expensive in ca. At least our sheriff breaks it down where your face to face interview with a detective cost ~$35. If he thinks you don't stand a chance he stops you there. If he is satisfied, it's off to live scan for ~$100. If that comes back clear it is off to the class that is taught by the sheriff. An all day deal with live fire for ~$100 then the final license fee at the end for ~$125.

This isn't Sheriffs from major cities with large Muslim populations- this is the backwater bits of America where the good citizens have FAR more to fear from their neighbors- and yet most of us don't lock our doors, where at the Stop-N-Go there seems to always be a farm tagged truck idling while the driver is inside buying some Skoal and flirting with the little teen-aged single mom clerk... :roll:

What amuses me the most is the call to arm, and then a murmur about getting yourself 'properly' trained...

To my mind a bunch of armed amateurs is dangerous to everyone- if these 'heroes' want to wander around armed how about they become reserve LEOs and have a clue about the law, and deadly force... eace

This concept works for both Christians and atheists. The more authority one has, the more responsibility one also has. Through their selective and disproportionate calls to arms sans balancing admonishments that being an armed citizen does not: deputize one, give one membership in a posse, a semi official militia, turn one into a "regulator", or make one a member of a special internal security unit (the Cossacks fullfilled this role Imperial Russia and Putin has brought them back). these sherrifs are severly neglecting the responsibility part of the equation.

Whether one is Christian, buddhist, or atheist, authority should be matched with responsibility. Any direct calls (and in some of these cases, the call seems pretty selective) by public authorities - not joe blow in the bar, for people to arm themselves in response to a threat should be balanced by admonishments that being an armed citizen does not make you a posse member, a special deputy, a "regulator", a semi official militiaman etc.

Of course, I think the above is taught in the CHL classes that the sherrifs do advise people to take. Even still, the direct calls for action issued by the sherrifs need to be accompanied by direct calls for caution.

I was referencing current threats and the highly selective focus of the poster I originally addressed. If 'suddenly' the Sheriff's would have us up in arms over Islamic terrorists they should have issued this call for those terrorists I mentioned, but of course no such call went out. I once again point out the Sheriff's making these calls don't patrol high Muslim populations- my Stephens County Sheriff for instance. Stephens County is a back water county in a back water state where our own kind are far more a threat than Muslims of any sort.

But in the age of Social Media everyone wants to be a star- even if only in their own mind.... eace

former Cincinnati Chief of Police James Craig advocated that in Cincinnati then moved back to his home town of Detroit and urged the same thing. I used to work with him when he was here. He got flack for not taking an ohio peace officers training academy test before becoming Chief but he was a good chief and rocked the boat of some liberal council members who thought an African American Chief of police hired by democrats ought to toe the party line

Ain't a matter of can or can't but will or won't...

I reckon if they are serious about doing more than posing in front of the mirror at home then they can join the reserve LE forces. This way Sheriff McKinney has a few dozen brave, steely eyed men (and women) to call on, rather than wonder who's side this 'gun' totting runner is on- when the radicals attack SW Oklahoma... :roll:

Now when it comes to what is called training to get a CCL vs the very extensive training a Reserve Officer undergoes...

no contest, call it government provided if you want but few, if any, facilities train to LEO standards- and the cost of that training is a princely sum.

I figure few, if any, of the new 'sheepdogs' get anything close to the training a cop gets... eace
